The part that got me was the scotch tape. They could press them between the plates of glass but why did they also use the tape?
In actual fact, pressing ancient manuscript fragments between glass plates is a terrible idea. When the Six Day War started in 1967 archaeologists and scholars working on the Dead Sea Scrolls were forced to evacuate, and were unable to return for nearly two full years. When they eventually did, they discovered that numerous fragments had been crushed by the weight of the glass. In their absence the plates had been stacked atop one another, and this destroyed huge numbers of the artefacts.

All of this is so fascinating. I think I mentioned to you Kipp that I was in Israel a year ago and visited the Shrine of the Book. The entire Israel Museum is so impressive.
Damn sorry I missed the Nova episode. Will try to find a way to watch.

I could have used more of your sections, and the CT scanned carbonized scroll (that was so fascinating), and less of most of the people in the first half of the program. The episode was Dead Sea scrolls detectives, but really only two of you were actually “detectives”.
All of the other talking heads look so... professorly, and then there’s Kipp is his Flames shirt. Love it.
So, I am actually sitting in the Departures lounge at Dulles in DC. My wife and I came here to participate in the Museum of the Bible's public event to announce the scientific findings. We cut our trip short and are headed home three days early, and then promptly entering into 14-days of self-quarantine.
I will have some more to say about this in the next little while, but for now we just need to get home...

The Museum of the Bible uploaded in its entirety the symposium from Friday about the scientific studies of their collection of Dead Sea Scrolls. The presentations featured in order:
Welcome: Jeff Kloha, Chief Curator, Museum of the Bible
Introduction: Mike Holmes, Director, Scholar's Initiative at MOTB
Overview: Colette Loll, Art Fraud Insights, and Abigail Quandt, Senior Paper Conservator, Walters Gallery, Baltimore
Respondents
1. Greg Bearman, NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory (ret.) via ZOOM
2. Christopher Rollston, Professor of Northwest Semitic Languages and Literatures, George Washington University
3. Kipp Davis, Acerbic Cyberbully, CalgaryPuck
4. Sidnie White Crawford, Professor Emerita of Classics and Religious Studies, University Of Nebraska-Lincoln
5. Lawrence Schiffman, Professor of Jewish Studies, NYU
The responses are followed by a question and answer period.
(Honestly, I felt like something of a rube sitting on the panel and surrounded by such luminaries in the field.)
