Again, a sign will tell you if you have to wear a mask or not when entering certain premises....

I'm not surprised, per se, I'm more disappointed. I've been a big proponent of wearing masks and taking other public health restrictions seriously over this entire almost-16-month ordeal, but enough's enough. The active case counts are super low and continue to drop like a rock, most of the eligible population has at least one dose of vaccine and the fully-vaccinated count is skyrocketing... time to put this crap behind us.
I haven't travelled, I forewent seeing any of my family at Christmas, I've worn masks everywhere, I've followed the now-seemingly-ridiculous direction arrows in businesses and public places.

Pretty silly waste of time. Keep your masks on for another couple of hours...

Yup, no one in their right minds would continue mandating mask wearing beyond when all those who are going to get vaccinated have both doses - in our case, roughly the end of July.
As I said in another thread, the cases are low enough, and theres so little time between now and that point (and even one dose is effective enough against severe outcomes), that it really can't possibly make a significant difference whether the mask mandate comes off now or at the end of the month.

3rd reading passed 10-4.
Once Nenshi signs it, I believe masks will officially be optional in all publicly-accessible indoor locations in the city of Calgary (subject to any restrictions the operators of those locations wish to implement).
Masks are still required on public transit and in taxis and for-hire vehicles under the provincial regulations.

Also, just because they repealed it, doesn’t mean they are outlawed. You can continue to wear a mask if you so choose. Perhaps I’m being naive, but I hope most of the city applies logic… (hah, yeah, I couldn’t type that with a straight face. Wave 4 after Stampede?)

I am considering voting solely on who will remove the idiotic 60 zone on Glenmore at 37th st. I couldn't give two ####s about whether or not people have to take a 30 second detour to get to the casino or not. Breaking up the flow of one of the city's only E-W corridors is ridiculous. Whoever decided to implement that change should be shot into the sun.

Technically you can stay at 80 but you have to spin the Grey Eagle roulette-wheel-o-CPS-radar to see if you get a ticket. So far no whammies

I’m also pretty sure that section is now under Provincial control - so voting in the municipal election based on that may be a waste.

We also have that new 60 zone on Crowchild too. And is Memorial still half closed for no reason?

Yeah, that new 60km on Chowchild is like boiling a frog.
It was 50 for years due to construction. Now it free flows better, makes sense to lower the limit to 60 from the previous 70.
CPS didn't want to give up their new honey pot.

They allow all businesses to make their own decisions on wether or not masking is required. The city as a business has made the decision to require masking for itself. This is what people asked for.
It also makes a lot of sense from an employer standpoint to be cautious with your street facing personal and ensure they are willing to come back to in person work. I would say that most city services are large indoor public areas so from a risk perspective their decision seems reasonable.

Not even really that. Council mostly said that determining wether city property should have a mask requirement is the city managers job, not theirs.
So they said that the mask bylaw remains in effect for city properties until the city manager can review and determine plans.

No she won't. She will and does look like the freaking idiot she is.
The Chief medical officer of this province has signed off on it. How the eff does Drue think she is more qualified than Deena Henshaw, who I may point out, was the very reason we have been doing what we have been doing for 16 months?
So it was OK to shut the province down on her advice, but screw her, she doesnt know squat when things change?
Same goes for Nenshi and his minions...like well done I guess? You lasted 4 days more than anywhere else because.....you are smarter than everyone else?
Just a ridiculous over reach of government that way too many people seem to be OK with. I do not get it.
They suck.

Hard to call it over reach when the province put the onus on implementing masking on municipalities in the first place. The city did exactly what the province wanted them to do: make decisions locally.
But where things got particularly silly was using things like people's faith in public transportation as a reason to keep the city's mask mandate, when the provincial mask mandate still covers public transit and taxis and ubers and the like.

TBH, I never really knew who was in charge between the Premier and Dr. Hinshaw. My instinct is that she caved a little giving Kenney what he wanted for these re-openings.

The problem with that is the Province didn't clarify that masks would still be required on transit and taxis until the day after Council voted to keep the bylaw.
Based on the discussions at their meeting 2 weeks ago, one of the main concerns was keeping masks on transit and taxis, and the best way to do that was to keep the full bylaw in place. I think it's possible that if the province had made the decision about transit and taxis earlier, the city might have voted to repeal 2 weeks ago.
