By the time the draft happens, Vegas will have had 4 seasons. Not so sure any more that they should be exempt.

NHL officially approves Seattle (first season 2021/22) Expansion draft in June 2021
They'll call themselves the Olympians because of the mountain range. Then they'll get into a lawsuit with the IOC over it.

Oddly enough, there's a precedent for that.
Way back in the Middle Ages, the NHL was divided into the Canadian Division and American Division. But there were only four teams in Canada and six in the U.S.
So just to keep everyone confused, the league made the New York Americans play in the Canadian Division.

Great day for Seattle! I am eager to see the Flames in person twice a year.
I have been partial to the Seattle Sockeye, but I am also okay with Metropolitans from a historical perspective. Please no Kraken or Emeralds.
I heard someone today suggest Grinders; I think that could be a decent name for a hockey team and a subtle coffee reference as well.

If they want to ramp up the rivalry with the Canucks, they should name them the Seattle Sea Worlds because they make life miserable for orcas.

I think there's a reason why this won't get picked.

Or just call them the Seattle Whale F***ers. I'd buy that jersey.

They'll call them the Gems for short.

I don't think it would be an issue as totems are not people. They are a part of aboriginal culture, but also of Pacific Northwest culture as a whole. Totems are also not exclusive to North American aboriginals, but can be found in pagan and shaman religions in Asia, Europe and Africa.
Totems is currently my favourite name, but there are a lot of good ones floating around out there. The merchandising opportunities would be endless.

red and black as the colour scheme?
are you serious?
Why not just make every team red or blue? Oh wait, they pretty much are.
Seattle will be the 10th team with red as a primary colour. Laaaaame.

How about the Seattle Earthquakes. They can reopen the new arena as the Epicenter. Goalie coach... Mike Richter?

I like a Kraken as much as anyone, but it sounds weird as a sports name IMO.

I’m already tired of hearing “release the Kraken” and the team won’t play a game for 3 years.

I like the "Seattle Grunge" (in homage to early 90s music), but then Edmonton would be confused as to why that name wasn't applied to them, in general.

They'll likely go with another name and striping pattern, but I think two-tone green works as a colour scheme and it would be unique in top level professional sports.

Don't know if this has been posted, but this is from the Reddit thread 'Seattle NHL team names as voted on by Reddit'
Ah, Reddit. I'd go for the 'Seattle Battle Cattle', but go one further.
Welcome to the NHL, the 'Seattle Rattle Battle Cattle '.
Honourable mention to the 'Rain City B*tch Pidgeons'

I don't get the anti-Kraken takes. I think it's badass. Plus, you always get used to a name after it's been used for a while. (except for the Mighty Ducks)
