I know this wont be popular, but I just cant buy Disturbed's cover of Sound of Silence. I just don't buy that the guy is as angry as the image he's trying to create.
David Draiman? I don't think he tries to portray himself as angry. Maybe when he was in his 20s but not really anymore. I've actually heard him get accused of being too soft now because he doesn't constantly write dark songs like he did when he was younger.
Location: In a land without pants, or war, or want. But mostly we care about the pants.
Exp:
Absolutely kills it, and the guitar solo is filthy.
Amazing vocals and arrangement.
As long as we're on the topic of amazing vocals, this arrangement is very close to the Nirvana original but Emily Armstrong somehow invests this with far more beautiful angst than a guy who ended up actually committing suicide.
This doesn't even need commentary, if you don't like it, you are a snot vampire.
And just to prove that the only reason disco sucked was that it wasn't metallized - exhibit B.

Growing up I was a fan of Gwar, not because they were super musically talented, but because they were so over the top hilarious and so gimmick based.
So I give you some Gwar covers, please don't play these at work because there's a lot of swearing, but listen to the pre song interviews because they're priceless.

When I think of covers that totally crushed it and annihilated the original I can't think of anything that tops this. I'm not even a big Iced Earth guy, but holy hell they took a legendary, iconic classic and made it their own.
As good as Iced Earth is, my vote has to go to Machine head for best Hallowed cover. Robb Flynn absolutely kills it and makes this a Machine Head song instead of a standard cover
Disturbed has done so many great covers, but this one takes the cake.
Simon and Garfunkel...I never understood the appeal of them.
Some of the best songs ever crafted, but their average, boring, mono-tone-ish voices held back the potential of how great their songs can be.
Sounds of Silence has the making of being such a dark song but never reached the potential that Disturbed reached with it
Scarborough Fair is another one.
A true Celtic like song, needs to be sung by ...
A Celtic woman.
Thee Celtic Woman.
Although this one is hands down the best version I've heard. Celia Pavey's voice could only be described as angelic. Pure Angelic
Delta called her voice Magical
Ricky Martin said her voice was like angels were talking to him
Seal wasnt even bothered by her forgetting the words because of the quality of her voice
Joel Madden literally went on his knees and begged her to be on his team
