Wow, CC, I can't believe you thought the Miley/Ariana cover of that Crowded House classic was better than the original. For shame, truly. That's one of my favorite songs ever and it's now tarnished by listening to the stupid banter of those two deciding what animal they're dressed as. Ridiculous. I'm kinda mad that I saw that now.
As for a good cover, let's go over a few.
First of all, the king of all covers is Hotel California by the Gypsy Kings. As good as the original is, this is a vast improvement on it.
Whitney Houston with arguably the most successful cover ever from an old Dolly Parton song.
Feist covers Ron Sexsmith's "Secret Heart".
The Cowboy Junkies cover "Sweet Jane" by the Velvet Underground.
Cake covers an old disco tune better than the original..."I Will Survive"
Aimee Mann perfects "One" previously recorded by Harry Nilsson and Three Dog Night.

I haven't done one of these in a while because I didn't want you guys getting sick of me. But I thought I would fire one off during the Christmas Season.
I want to do a list based on cover songs. Great Songs that were made better by bands, that maybe gave a new look and feel to a already great song. Some you might agree with, some you won't. But here we go in no particular order, best covers.
1) Ariane Grande and Miley Cyrus - Don't dream its over. Now I normally wouldn't cross the street to listen to Miley Cyrus, but a friend pointed me to her Happy Hippie project a foundation founded by Cyrus to help homeless LGBTQ youth. This lead to a release of a bunch of strong covers by Cyrus. Jolene, 50 ways to meet your lover etc. But to me one of the strongest ones that shows a lot of talent by Cyrus is her duet with Ariana Grande. This song showcases Cyrus' strong vocal talent as her somewhat smokey rough voice really makes this song come alive. This song was probably the best known song by Crowded House, but the cover really improves on it
never liked the Stones, but "Gimme Shelter" is awesome. Thankfully there's a number of great covers to choose from ... the Paul Brady/Forest Rangers version takes the cake for me, in large parts because of Sons of Anarchy. The Stone Sour/Lzzy Hale version also kicks ass.

Yeah what a strange choice. Those two have talent, no arguing that, but that banter was stupidity and destroyed it. A very un CC like choice.
Amy Macdonald does some beautiful Springsteen covers.

I know this wont be popular, but I just cant buy Disturbed's cover of Sound of Silence. I just don't buy that the guy is as angry as the image he's trying to create.
