Buffalo is still a tire fire.

Thats because of the eye test. All the advanced stats nerds using advanced stats like Wins and Losses, and regulation wins cant tell that the goalies are the worst in the league by the eye test.

No, they are not. Nor are wins, losses and ROWs “advanced stats.”

Everyone who thinks Treliving should have moved heaven and earth to get an elite goalie in the offseason must also have believed Calgary was a cup contender back then. After just overhauling the team with the Hamilton trade, just acquiring Neal, Ryan and Czarnik, with still planning on running at least one rookie on defence and probably one in the forwards, and with Smith on an expiring contract (and others nearing the end). Hands up who thought Calgary would be first in the west?

Myself, I thought Calgary was building but not quite there - a PO team but probably third in the division at best. If Treliving could have found a long term goalie who looked like he would become a stud, he probably would have done something. But a lot of the goalies being named were not established. Others would have cost the farm at a time when it would be dangerous to overpay. Plus he had Rittich who showed promise and Gillies and Parsons, who were highly touted and still could become good. I think he was being prudent.

There is literally only one stat that actually matters in this game (or any other sport for that matter) - wins. If liking wins and losses makes a stat nerd, put me down as the biggest nerd out there.

Those are all young solid pieces to the future of this team who are starting to break out and make their marks.
That's not all:
Jankowski
Bennett
Hathaway
Tkachuk
Brett Kulak (since departed, but was serviceable)
Czarnik (technically a sophomore with 0 full seasons before signing)
And then part-timers such as Lomberg, Gillies and others I'm probably forgetting.

You're right, there's been a huge influx of young blood under Treliving, which is to be expected on a rebuilding team. And for the first time in ages for this organization, most of it is homegrown.
