Default Flames Playoff Record (Historical)

This page just blew my mind...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...playoff_series

The Flames are just 16-27 all time in playoff series? And we own the Canucks - against the rest of the league we are just 11-25??? I was shocked. I figured 50/50 and maybe better given the epic teams of the 80s. I remember the painful losses but I figured those just stood our in my memory because they hurt. Had no idea we had been historically bad in the playoffs. The current dynasty should help even out these stats.

I think people forget that the Flames made the playoffs 16 times in a row from 1975 to 1991.
Sure they made it to the finals twice in that period, but nearly every other year was a first round exit.

I wonder what the Flames' record is like when they have home ice in a series.

It's not really all that shocking to be honest. This year is going to be only the 5th 100 point + season the Flames have had. EVER. Having to scratch and claw away at the playoffs as a low seed makes post season success very hard to come by.

Bottom line: Enjoy this next few weeks/months because it might not happen again for a while.

also if they win the division, it'll only be their 7th division title in nearly 45 years, including in Atlanta.

in their previous 6 division titles, they lost in the first round 4 times.

only exceptions are 1988, swept by Edmonton in the 2nd round and of course 1989 winning it all.

For the record that list is missing the first round playoff loss to the Winnipeg Jets in 1985. Best not to dwell over the organization's playoff history as it will severely damper your enthusiasm for the playoffs. There is little doubt the Flames playoff history is absolutely abysmal considering the amount of times they have failed to make it past the first round.

This is why I just can't get too excited for the playoffs. I definitely have hope, more than I've had in 15 years, but there's been far too much disappointment in between to let myself get too wrapped up. All I expect is a first round win assuming the Flames take the conference (as they should), past that I'll just be along for the ride hoping for the best

Those are all isolated events and can't be used to predict future events.

JMO but I think home ice advantage in the playoffs is critical.

What if we had game 7 at home in 2004? I can think of other examples.

I know some coaches like opening on the road with a view to stealing one or both but the longer a series goes you want games 5 and 7 at home.
