Default What “save the season” trade would you like?

I just can’t see management wanting to rebuild/retool after how good they were in the regular season last year. I think there will be trade to shake things up if the dumpster fire isn’t extinguished soon. So what would you like to see?

Given the team is in Philly, Johnny’s hometown, and Philly is barely hanging on to WC2 after their own 4 game losing streak they teams might be perfect partners to make a deal.

KEY PIECES
Gaudreau/Monahan for Couturier/Lindblom

C/LW for C/LW
26/25 year olds for 23/26 year olds
6.75/6.38 million for .925/4.33 million

Philly would have to throw in a cap dump to make the salaries work. Niskanen perhaps who has 2 more years at 5.75. He’s having a decent year so they’d probably need a cheap defenseman back and Calgary would need another cap dump to match the salaries, maybe Raffl at 1.6 million for 2 more years. So:

Gaudreau/Monahan/Kylington for Couturier/Lindblom/Niskanen/Raffl

Salaries are almost a wash 13.13 and 13.33. Still think we’d need to add an asset so a mid pick or prospect.

Calgary would get the better center. Couturier is bigger and better defensively but slightly worse
in points this year (18 for Monahan, 15 for Coururier). Philly without question gets the better winger but both currently have similar point production (18 for Gaudreau, 16 for Lindblom). Johnny has way more pedigree as Lindbloms career best for points is 33, but he is trending upward at a rapid rate and is younger and an RFA this summer.

Lindblom - Couturier - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Raffl/Czarnik
Mangiapane - Ryan - Raffl/Czarnik
Lucic - Quine - Frolik
Jankowski

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Andersson - Niskanen
Stone

Rittich
Talbot

In a perfect world another trade to upgrade that #2RW would be huge.

I don’t know, I’m bored. Rip me apart.

No mid season moves except to trade pending UFAs for futures. This team just doesn't have it. Trade a core player or two in the offseason if need be. A rebuilecis just around the corner me thinks

Save the season plan A:
- Trade each of Backlund, Brodie, Bennett, Frolik, Hamonic, Jankowski and Ryan for picks.
- Call some players up to replace them.
- Suck for the rest of the year.
- Draft a boatload of players in the offseason, hopefully at least one very high first round pick.

I would consider this season a huge success if that were to happen.

I too would take a page out of the Blues book from last year and swap Peters for Sutter.

You're not winning any player trades from the position the Flames are dealing from. You can only screw it up worse.

No save the season trades please.

Sounds like something we'll all end up regretting.

Save the season trade? In this current market?
Oof. Save the season...I kind of dont want it to be saved honestly. I want those players in that room to marinate in this. Call it tough love.

At the very least, cut the dead fat any way you can. Janko, Frolik to be exact. They're bodies rotting face down in the creek at this point on this team.

I like Darryl Sutter, but this isn’t a Darryl Sutter roster. What exactly is he going to do with these guys?

At this point I'm trading the expiring contracts of Hamonic and Brodie at the deadline for prospects and possibly trading a core peice.

I would be tanking out the season for a high pick that can hopefully help next year or the year after and drafting what ever picks I got out of the trades. I might even ask if Gio is interested in going to a contender and selling high. Still would have Chucky, Lindholm, Rasmus, Rittich, probably keep Monahan to for 2nd line C.

There would be enough still here along with whoever we draft to be built up again in 2 yrs for another run if they can manage to tank hard enough this season.

Don’t do anything frantic.

But there are two big declining assets on this team. Gio and Backlund. I guess they are providing leadership yet this team still can’t handle adversity. Do you ride these guys out through their contracts or do you tear it down?

Jettison the coach no other changes see what happens. If they continue to suck you then it's safe to assume the roster is fragile and has to be blown up.

Is it just me or is trading Brodie now going to be pennies on the dollar given his recent health issues?

There's no season saving trade. It's deeper than one trade. Have the fortitude to accept that this rebuild core is not going to get it done, keep some core components and move in a very different direction.

Well that's part of the issue. Our tradable assets are currently in the hospital. Tree doesnt have his big currency to deal until they're back on the ice. So it's just a bunch of waiting now.

I can't imagine replacing Peters fixes this team. If the players have quit on the coach then they're not the right players IMO.

Johnny is looking every bit like the player we were worried he really was when the games matter.

As much as I like Bennett, it's easy to see that having our highest pick in franchise history turn into a grinder 3rd liner and not a franchise player has completely destroyed our team's window.

Now we're a middle of the pack team that won't bottom out enough to get the elite talent needed to win. Problem is even if we sell Gaudreau for a king's ransom and go for the tank, I have very little confidence in the players or picks we get back working out. Look what Iginla, Bouwmeester, Regehr, Cammalleri, Kiprusoff, etc. turned into for example.
