The hope is that Conroy gets a friggin haul of futures for him at the deadline. He won't be a rental, he'll still have 1.5 years left on that sweetheart deal and should net a lot more than Hanifin or Lindholm did last year.
If the Flames were in a different part of the cycle, and we didn't have a stacked D prospect pool I'd love to see Ras extended for his career, but as he said, it's a business. We need enough futures piled up to offset the inevitable #### luck that always comes. You don't want to be in a position where everything has to go right for the team to succeed when they're rebuilt and contending again.
We can't be in a spot where a debilitating Monahan injury, or a slow Bennett development, or a Fox forced exit, takes the wind right out of the sails.
We want to have enough picks where if we miss and take a Mason Mcdonald, Brandon Hickey or Hunter Smith, there is still a pick left to grab a Brayden Point.

The Lindholm one inspired 0 confidence. “I’m willing to stay” is very different than what Rasmus said. The others also said “they’d be open” not that they want to stay

I love Andersson and compared to most those guys I feel like he has proven that he means it that he loves being here.
I also think that keeping him doesnt make it impossible to tank. Having Weegar (great deal btw) and Andersson (who should be the next captain) are a luxury to have to teach and shelter the big group of high potential dmen we have. Parehk, Mews, Bruz, Porier, etc. will all need some mentors. Andersson can be good for a very long time, even after we become competitive again. Keeping him will not change us from being and amazing team or mid team, If we suck we will suck. He isnt Quinn Hughes or Cale Makar.
We have already traded away so many players, and will continue to do so, but I think keeping Andersson is the same as keeping Backlund. There is value in keeping him even if he is worth a decent amount. As more of these young dmen come into our lineup we literally will just have Weegar to front all the load pushing random guys into top 4 minutes even if they arent ready. We will end up signing a veteran d,man anyways
I know it doesn't make logical sense with our timeline for rebuilding, but if there's one player on the current team I want to see stay through the rebuild and finally (hopefully) lift the cup, it's Ras (it would be Backs, but there's no way he plays that long, sadly).
We've had too many players in the past have long careers with the Flames and get rewarded with nothing, so it'd be nice to see Ras be the grizzled old veteran on a Stanley Cup winning Flames team. Plus, imagine the fun of him endlessly taunting rival fans throughout the playoffs?
Obviously, I'll take a cup that requires trading Ras over keeping him and not getting one, but damn it, I would love to be able to keep him and still reach the Summit a handful of years from now
And Tkachuk would be a long term contract if be didn't do that's two year bridge bull#### uber'ing him to free agency. Nickle and diming Gaudreau didn't help either
It was three years IIRC. And if you read more, his idea of long term started at 5 years. Not that I trust that he would have signed for that despite what he said.
What would you have offered Gaudreau after a couple seasons well below PPG?

Lindholm was all about the money. Hanifin did agree to an extension before backing out. The Flames did not prioritize Toffoli and he got hurt feelings and wanted a trade. Tkachuk just says things.
I think Andersson is all about the money as well and we need to get ahead of this thing and hopefully deal him at the deadline. Like he said it’s a business and we need to do what’s best for us for a change and trade players before they take us to the cleaners on retirement deals.

It wouldbe nice to see him re-up. The Flames have done a half assed job rebuilding and embracing youth but he's not the guy you push out the door, need to keep some pieces. And he's clearly making Bahl into a much better player and helping with our development. Move Kadri and keep Ras.

Trade him, keep Weegar. He’s going to want a 9.5ish contract for 8 years.
He’s good, but in that middle area where I don’t think he’ll ever be worth his contract.
