I don’t think there’s a connection. It wouldn’t be the first time Calgary has been referenced on a show when they need a “middle of nowhere” location.
It's usually Canadian writers. I forgot who but I remember seeing an interview with some star years ago saying that Hollywood is overrun with Canadian writers and they like to pop in Canadian references.
oh my god, the feels in that episode. I was even sniffling.

Chidi has to be rebooted after the bad place sends his ex girlfriend to the good place to take part in an experiment that proves that the bad place has been manipulating entry to make it impossible for people to get into the good place.
Chidi realized that he would ruin the experiement and had his memory erased including everything to do with falling in love with Eleanor.
The scene where they're watching a movie on their relationship and Eleanor is just bawling was heartbreaking and so well done.
What a harsh way to end the third season of this show

It's not the Bad Place manipulating entry though. It was found out they had nothing to do with it, it's the system itself due to the complexity of the modern world. Even buying tomatoes is a negative value due to to the unintended consequences (pesticides etc.).
Also technically she was brought to the Medium Place that's being portrayed as the Good Place.

Bump, the last episode airs next week, and I came here to really sing the praises on this series. A brilliant and fun premise, great characters and acting, some really sharp comedy and its gearing up to what I think is going to be a happy/sad ending that will be really emotional if you've watched this show and love the characters.

So it came to an end tonight with a 90 minute finale, it was heart wrenching and a celebration of the show and the characters at the same time.
I'm going to boldly say that this is probably one of my favorite comedies of all time, mainly because it was so unique. The premise was brilliant, the show was smart with strong characters and dialogue and a really interesting and neat ending.
I have to admit that I had some sniffles as one by one the characters meant their ends, some very final and some very uplifting.

Part of me felt that Elenor was going to walk through that door and instead of becoming a piece of the universe that she would be greated by Michael saying "Hi Elenor come on in and have a seat" But that final image of her walking through the door and the camera panning up to see what looked like fireflies was amazing.
Kristen Bell was brilliant throughout and funny and fun. This was a true ensemble comedy with not cast member being bigger then the other one.
In the end what I really liked was even though the ending was somewhat sad just because of the way we said goodbye to them, but at the same time you were happy because their end was extremely satisfying.
The rare series finale that just gets every beat, every piece of dialogue right, it was more like a celebration then a funeral, and I'm going to miss the Good Place.

I honestly have never had an emotional reaction to a show like I did with The Good Place's finale. I don't think I stopped ugly crying for more than 5 minutes during the entire hour.
One of the best shows I think I've had the privilege of watching.
Excellent show. It's actually kind of indescribable, people actually need to start at the beginning and watch it. It's one of those few shows where I was always surprised when an episode finished, they flew by.
And the way they could mix deep philosophical concepts and stupid humour without it feeling jarring was a real art form. The entire cast played their roles perfectly.
I'm sad it was only 4 seasons, but I'm glad they didn't hang on too long and they wrapped it up like they wanted to it to finish. The finale was perfect for the show.

Michael becoming human in the end and having to come back and be tested when he died, and being ok with the possibility that the system changes or goes back to the old system was really amazingly poignant.
I actually got the sniffles as soon as Jason made dinner for Janet and then went through the door. The brilliance was until Eleanor went through the door they didn't show what happened. I teared up when Jason returned after spending all that time searching for the necklace, gives it to Janet and yells "Wait up Chidi and runs through"
The biggest surprise for me was Tahani who became the most interesting character on the show as she went through massive change, and then decided that she wasn't going to be ready as long as there were things to learn, and she became an architech.
I did sniffle when Eleanor decided it was time and had a simple dignified good bye with Janet and walked through the gate.
Just some of the philosophical discussions in this show were amazing, especially the wave allegory.
When you look back on comedies that lose steam or get judged on their bad momentum less endings like How I met your mother, or Seinfield among a lot, this show lasted the perfect amount of time, and had such a great ending.

So many TV series these days try to go for as many seasons as they can until they get cancelled and then scramble to end with purpose and dignity and can't pull it off. So glad The Good Place ended on their terms.
If there was a message throughout the show and especially during the finale it was to appreciate the struggle of life, as without the struggle and bad days there would be no triumphs and good days (which I started living by after reading Yuval Harari's books).
With nothing to overcome and nothing to aim towards there is no meaning to life, and therefore the only thing left at that point is to walk through the door to the unknown.
And how walking through to the unknown is the hardest philosophical decision we could ever make. To leave it all for possibly nothing because you've experienced it all to the fullest.
