Going to Anaheim

I have some time off and I am probably going to head down to catch the first two games (I plan on staying longer to check out DisneyLand and Los Angeles).

I will be going by myself so I was wondering if there are other people who are planning on going, so we can have a CP retreat?

Also, any suggestions for someone going to California for the first time by himself? i am thinking of staying there for about a week.

What sort of stuff do you like?

If theme parks and roller coasters are your thing, there's also Knott's Berry Farm, Magic Mountain, and Universal Studios in the area in addition to Disneyland.

If you want a good Studio tour, the Warner Bros one is much better than Universal. Universal is basically a theme park with a tram around some sets. At WB, you go in small groups and can actually walk around the backlot and show sets (where they're not shooting).

There are lots of nice beaches and the weather is supposed to be beautiful this week.

There's also baseball games to check out. The Dodgers are at home this week and the Angels next week. You could also drive down to San Diego for a Padres game.

For Disneyland, if you're an AMA member, buy your ticket in advance before you go. It's cheaper than buying at the gate, and you won't have to stand in line at the ticket booths.

I went down last year in May. Managed to see a Ducks-Kings round 2 game (in Anaheim), and a Dodgers-Giants game. I was only down there for 5 days, but here is a list.

-go for tacos anywhere
-Disneyland
-Santa Monica Pier
-Venice Beach
-shopping at The Grove
-drive around the Hollywood Hills
-In-N-Out Burger

A few tips
-If you have a GPS - take it. They can be super helpful navigating off ramps on the highway.
-purchase Disney tickets in advance
-avoid rush hour traffic at all costs
-check out what concerts and shows are going on. There are always lots.

Mac was right in everything he said, but I cannot stress enough the importance of In-N-Out and a GPS. Mostly use that GPS to find the In-N-Out, but still...

The only advice I would really give is, going places takes longer then you think so dont try to pack your schedule too dense, LA traffic sucks.

If you have international data, use Waze; it will navigate you away from the 1000 car accidents.

Also, there are thousands of international places to eat that have amazing food. Its like going to Calgary and eating Peters Drive In or eat at Montanas... I guess you could, but there is so much more.

If you do Venice Beach, you have to do Abbot Kinney as well. Neat street just a stones throw from Venice Beach with really good food/boutiques/people watching.

I'd stay in one of the Orange County beach cities (Huntington, Newport, Laguna, Dana Point). They all have their unique ocean-side charms, and from each you can get to the Honda Center without having to use the major freeways.

Another option is to stay in San Diego. You can take the Amtrak train and get off two blocks south of the Honda Center. The train station is about 8 blocks from the airport in San Diego, so you wouldn't have to rent a car. (4pm - 6:08pm departure and 10:49 pm return would probably work for a playoff game).
