Default East Village (the new)

Has anyone had a chance to go down and check it out?
Personally, as nice as it is right now I have to question how it will look in 2 years time. People have already started to make their presence felt.
Planning on going for a nice lengthy run along the river if we get another near record breaking day in terms of temperature!!

I think there are still a lot of question marks in that area.

If we are talking inner city areas - I think the other side of the core will end up being great - the areas surrounding the Pumphouse Theatre and what not.

I might go check it out this week; I want to see the new paths they've opened up and get a good sense of how big the area actually is for development.

I'm excited by the Bosa deal about a month back, and I've heard rumblings about another big announcement from a different Canadian developer could be coming very soon.
The large National developers seem to think Calgary's East Village is a place to get involved with.

I walked down there with the family on Sunday, check out my pics here:

The area has AMAZING potential, the key is to develop it properly and not restrict developers with garbage rules like including faux-western architecture (or as we call it on SSP 'Stampitecture') in the designs. Let it become messy urbanism, with all sorts of styles, densities, and sizes to really make it its own area.

Another key factor will be how the EV can integrate to the east Beltline. The new 4th street underpass will be much better in design than all the previous ones, and with the Cantos/King Eddy building right there it should help pull more development to the EV and east Beltline in the next cycle. Also don't forget about the Stampede expansion plans, which include turning 4th street into their "Stampede Trail" development, with shops, bars, and restaurants.

As much as the east Beltline has changed with Sasso/Vetro, Nuera, Keynote, and arriVa the next jump should be even more incredible.
