Great thread to reminisce. The 90's were the decade of my 20's and so much of these songs and bands resonate with me.
Was anyone else at Big Sky in the early 90's ('93 or '94)? 3 day concert put on by The Hudson's Bay Company just outside of High River to celebrate their 325th anniversary. I went with a couple freinds on the last day and it was chock full of the biggest names in Canadian rock at the time - MuchMusic was there - Bryan Adams was the headliner and closed the show out with a great set. Still arguably the best musical experience I've had.
Can-Con is responsible for a huge amount of mediocre music over the years, but there were a few Canadian bands I really liked.
I Mother Earth's first album was interesting, slightly heavy and cool. They just turned to weak garbage soon after, the lowest point being Edwin's solo single. Just horrid.
Age of Electric, great rock band from the prairies. Incredible live band, worked hard, toured a lot and always had interesting covers thrown in their sets. Absolutely love them. Ryan's Limblifter is damn good and Todd is touring the world with Slash right now, not bad.
Salvador Dream. Their debut album UR was ahead of it's time, every musician I knew praised them. Amazing musicianship, songwriting and arrangements. Such a strong album.
They still put on a great show. Their latest album, 'Ghosts', is highly underrated.
Seen them and Thornley several times... although last time they were in town I couldn't convince anyone to go with me. One of my favorite bands to see live.

I think Maestro Fresh Wes was more of a late 80's, about the time when the Flames were going on extended playoff runs. As for the 90's I remember seeing Pure at the Den in 1994, Hayden at the Night Gallery in 1995, Treble Charger opening for 13 Engines at the Republik in 1995, The Rheostatics opening for Tragically Hip in 1996 at the Saddledome, Ashley Macissac & Tragically Hip in Camrose in 1997. I saw I Mother Earth and Red Autumn Fall at the Republik too many times to count during the 1990s. Sloan at Mount Royal, Also Tariq at the Ship & Anchor. Can't remember which bands were there but anyone else remember Snow Job 1994 in Banff. There had to have been a long list of Canadian bands for that one? 54-40? I remember it being a good show and seeing the Goo Goo Dolls there although not Canadian. Still listen to 90s Hayden and pick up his new releases when they come out.
The Calgary Cassette Preservation Society is dedicated to the digitization of analog recording artifacts by punk, new wave, rock, pop, etc bands of the Calgary region.
I could listen to Finger Eleven's first album anytime. Remember them at Edgefest 97(IIRC) on a side stage and bought their CD on the way out of Thunderbird Stadium.
edit....what a ######y pic of them in the preview window. #frostedtips

Anyone ever hear the story about the time Age of Electric was playing the LiveWire? Apparently the lead singer took offense to something and jumped into the crowd quickly followed by the guitarist and the bass player. The whole thing spilled into the parking lot. When the band came back in and took their spots the drummer never left, was still keeping time and the song continued.

I want this to be true.
Aeneas, is that true? He used to live across the street.
I can say I had a few beers with The Killer Dwarfs on their tour bus in the parking lot.
We used to see a band called Klik quite a bit. They covered Rush and Journey songs.
