It just seems really odd to have the players basically on lockdown for 2 months in Canada/Edmonton and then have a watch party in an Arena in ####ing Florida

Why can't they have a "watch party" and let 2000 fans watch the actual game in a place that has actually taken this #### seriously

My guess is they don't want to introduce another cohort of people to the bubble at all. everyone that is in the bubble had to quarantine, including members of the media, for I think 14 days.
So that's why they've been able to pull this off.
As soon as you allow another cohort of people into the same environment, it puts the entire thing at risk.
Which isn't to say I agree with the watch parties at all. They seem like a bad idea. But the risk change dramatically when you have fans at the actual game.

I get it, I'm not saying I actually think they should its just the mixed messages of it all

Do I think that the schools should have taken more steps to manage space and size? I do. But it has no relevance here because those are completely different parties involve, for different purposes, with different demographics, different risk profiles and completely different spaces to manage.

Saying that schools should have done more to reduce risk, doesn't somehow make it OK for fans to gather to watch a game. Nor does it make it not OK. It simply doesn't have any relevance in the discussion, from my POV.

Unless there was a different point you were trying to make...in which case you are welcome to clarify.
My point was that these group events if social distancing aren't that bad compared to other things in life, so I used a hyperbolic reply.

Importance aside, 30 kids in a tiny classroom is far more likely to be the cause of an outbreak than 2000 people in a giant arena/stadium that are able to socially distance. I probably should have avoided hyperbole online and used restaurants and bars as an example.

People are gathering in theatres, churches, airplanes, buses, trains, restaurants, arenas, stadiums, gyms, stores, office buildings, malls... In smaller numbers and with safety measures in place hopefully.

It is hard to know what is exactly safe but you’ll drive yourself crazy if you start getting upset whenever it happens. Obviously we’re past the point of self isolation and society is trying to figure out how to live with this virus until a vaccine is in place.
I do agree it’s a little debatable whether any kind of watch party is a great idea even with social distancing and masks and I wouldn’t go. But I have a hard time crapping all over the idea when they’re adhering to safety guidelines.
