Big W.
Now tied with Cleveland for 5th in the AL. 14 games left over 13 days and they are 5 games up on 9th.
I really want to see what this team looks like when they are healthy.

I think 3 more wins is all they need. Seattle is 21-25 and is closest to 8th place. I doubt the Mariners can be better than 7-7 to close out the season and no way the Tigers or Orioles are winning more than 6 more games let alone 9.

That was sweet. Lose the last game of the Yanks series, then get absolutely clobbered in game 1 against the Mets. Promptly bounce back to win the next 2 games and the series vs. the Mets.
Well done.
This next series is going to be tough, especially with the pitchers they'll be facing.

Officially I think our magic # is 10. But, I agree that Seattle is unlikely to win more than 7 of their remaining games.

Good article on the Jays bullpen.
By the numbers: How Blue Jays bullpen has thrived in 2020
Quote:
It doesn’t only feel like the Blue Jays have played a far more stressful season than the rest of MLB — it’s reality. Of the club’s 46 games played, an MLB-high 22 have been decided by one run. Eight others have been decided by two. Toronto’s 11 extra-inning games also lead MLB. No other team has played more than eight — and 23 teams have played fewer than six.
|
Hopefully all these close games and high leverage situations gves the Jays a leg up for the post season.

That would be fantastic.
Worst case it's good for their development, as the mental part of the game is so important.

Sure, if the goal is 8th.
But I want to see them finish 5th. For 3 reasons:
1) better matchup, obviously
2) so they would have made the post season even under normal rules, and
3) so they are ahead of the Yankees!
To finish 5th, I think they will need to go 8-6 for sure, and probably 9-5

Billy Mckinney was picked up off waivers by the Brewers.
So that pretty much ties off the Happ/Yankees trade. Definitely not a win.
The FO has made some other really good trades though, can't win 'em all I guess.

Connor Greene and Dominic Leone for Grichuk
Liriano for Teoscar Hernández
Stroman for SWR and Anthony Kay
Phelps for Hatch
Those trades stand out to me as pretty good value.

Yep, exactly.
Also, the Donaldson trade is looking better and better every time Merryweather takes the mound and his arm doesn't fall off.

In Seattle the A's just walked in the go ahead run (6-5) in the bottom of the 6th in game 1 of their double header.

I'm not sure 5th to 7th makes a difference in quality of opponent. If you finish 5 you are getting one of Chicago or Minnesota. If you finish 6 or 7 you got one of Tampa or Oakland.
Also, for the time being, I just want to clinch a playoff spot, then target #2 in the division. Then hopefully set our sights on Tampa and 1st in the east.

M's hold on to beat the A's 6-5 in Game 1. I didn't realize it earlier, but the M's were down 5-0 in this game. Next up for games that matter to us, ATL/BAL and Game 2 of OAK/SEA

I’m pretty much taking the ABT(anyone but Tampa) approach for the Jays to start the playoffs. Although, Ideally I’d like them to face a team from the Central division. Looking at the splits the Twins, Sox, and Indians have all favoured from playing some weak opponents and are relatively mediocre against quality teams. The Sox being the most egregious example as they’re 21-3 against the Royals, Tigers, and Pirates. And only 9-13 against everyone else.

Seattle is only a game back of Houston, would like to see them make up that game and push out the cheaters. I bet the MLB would like to avoid the controversy of having the Astros in the post season as well.

I don't think that site takes head to head match-ups into account, with Houston and Seattle still with a 3 game series, one of those two teams is guaranteed to lose 2 games and that would knock our # to 10 I think
edit: nevermind, read the chart wrong, it does show 10

O's are destroying the Braves 14-1 in the 8th.
A's are up 9-0 in the 6th of game 2 after losing the 1st game 6-5.
Twinkies & ChiSox tied 1-1 in the 5th.
