Oh right yeah. That actually makes sense. Sucks for people who may have a legitimate reason to use the 10-15 day return period but I guess it is what it is.

RUMOR or interweb reports:

wccftech.com nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-users-report-crashes-black-screens-during-gaming

Note that the crashes don't really affect the Founders Edition cards, so those with AIB cards might want to keep the boost clocks below 2ghz

May also be a silicon limitation as well.

What the crap is iGame? Some terrible European AIB?

I have a feeling people with FEs, ASU.S and EVGA cards will be fine.

But I guess even that seems small compared to the card. Maybe a CFL football would be a better comparison size wise.

It's actually bigger than my laptop.

Looked at a few 3090 reviews, doesn't look like it's worth it for a gamer.

I have no idea what Nvidia's goal is with that card. The performance jump from the 3080 is around 15-20% in most cases, but it's double the price, takes up 3 slots, and appears to require a 1000W power supply. Nvidia is also not releasing the Titan driver optimizations for it, so while an RTX Titan is much slower for gaming and casual video editing, in professional tools it still blows the 3090 away. The only people I can see buying this card are money-is-no-object gamers who must have the most FPS no matter what

The best thing it really does is to make the 3080 look incredibly good. The future 3080 Super/Ti will probably look great by comparison as well as long as it comes in at around US$999-$1199.

According to a friend that works for PGI in Vancouver, it's far too large to even fit in their current workstations without moving their entire setup over to bigger cases.

I'd definitely need to do some case modding on my SL600m to fit virtually any flavour of RTX 3080 in a vertical mounting configuration.

www.igorslab.de what-real-what-can-be-investigative-within-the-crashes-and-instabilities-of-the-force-rtx-3080-andrtx-3090/

sometimes waiting 90 days to watch the initial tests provides value. i wonder if it will affect valuation of ebay cards?

Basically anytime the "automatic" boost engages there's a percentage chance of this happening on certain cards. Doesn't really affect Founders edition as they went for the high end power filtration. Some cards have the higher end power filtration and will be "better" or in spec cards than others. Maybe luck of the component draw.

Per the Jayz2cents video, a -50mhz max clock or (unclear on voltage) or just dropping the maximum power the card can draw to below 300w can have stabilizing effects, with the commensurate loss of maybe 5%?(there's a german website where they explore undervolting and underclocking a 3080 and the perfromance loss amounts to about 5-10% but 270w vs 320w power draw.)

3 weeks and a couple days to see if amd will have anything competitive.

Some cards have cheaper caps and can fail when overclocked but sometimes even during reference boost clock.

Funny story though, I wasn't expecting a 3080 so did not prepare for it. When I got it I go home and throw it in my PC (Replacing my 2070Super my kid now has) fire up a game knowing there were issues and my whole system shuts down. Thats odd I better double check my power supply. I totally forgot my PS died a while back and I had a temporary in there which was a 430W lol, I am actually surprised the 2070 didn't crash the system.
