Just another day and another trade for the Sharks. 4 players involved and and 3/4 are pending UFAs. We didn’t really like the Stamkos injury thing and the Rask retirement threaten thing but really those didn’t play into this at all. We get back a guy just as good as Stamkos and a goalie with a great rating who is not a pending UFA locked up on a great contract.
We are not interested in dishing out 3 year 10Mill deals so the time was right to trade two really good players that will demand UFA $
When you work hard to make a good team on paper, you need to get creative and find ways to keep a good team on paper and a big part of that is knowing when to let go of really good players before demanding $10mill X 3 on a 1 way deal.
Rask has been a Shark for a very long time now and we always knew he was a good goalie but always under rated in sim ratings until this year. Stamkos is what he is. From what I know Malkin can be good in the SIM and a really good rated goalie doesn’t mean anything in this league (even though Lehner is top 5 rated at 85).
Good luck to Nashville, we hope Stamkos and Rask treat you well but it was time for us to make a move because we wouldn’t be giving out max deals to Rask or Stamkos.
