Default Math App

Kids have it really easy nowadays, check out this application that uses your phone camera to solve complex math problems:

Installing now.

I hate having to do math checking the kid's homework.

Edit: Ok, apparently this isn't a real app yet. So disappoint.

Very interesting with how kids will evolve how they learn. Would they be just as smart knowing when to use a formula rather than how to complete the solution long hand?

Is knowing how to do complicated math problems long hand "smart"?

This is like when my highschool teacher said "if you know how to program your TI, then you already know how to do the math."

Sounded great at the time.

I would say that makes you smart at math. But is long hand still required?

I am unsure what you are getting at.

Oh it's real... I downloaded it this morning and it works MIGHTY well. The fact it shows you the steps is the game changer. I showed my wife the math teacher and her immediate response was "oh s***". Then she saw that it gives you the steps and the language got quite a bit more colourful.

If you don't have a textbook, just do a google search for an equation (it can't discern handwriting at the moment).

I made a video to show how fast it works. Amazing.

These are pretty trivial first-order math problems though. Can it do something a little harder like a quadratic?

2x^2+4x-5=0 ?

Saw this yesterday and sent it to my wife (who is a high school math teacher). She had one of her students try it and it couldn't handle some the examples in their textbook. It definitely seems hit & miss

Tried it on my Lumia when I saw the news article. Very cool how it will show you the steps to find the answer, could be really useful for helping students with their homework once it matures and is able to tackle more difficult equations.
