Crazy how much respect the Flames are getting from their opponents lately. Hitchcock and Nash both giving props to the Flames as an elite team and happy their team hung tight.

The Flames certainly never played elite, but interesting how their league-wide reputation is changing.

Sarich looked gassed with his 27 minutes last night. Ditto too for Aucoin and his nearly 31 minutes.

I agree. I give credit for a nice move and because he and Kipper both gave Calgary that extra point, but he was ordinary during regulation. He played 16 minutes without a shot on net. He did make a few nice passes but there were several times he overhandled the puck in different zones and turned it over. This par for the course for Bertuzzi, he's good when he's on a streak and then he goes a 19 game goaless drought.

Lombardi was the 2nd fittest Flame at camp this year after Iggy. Boyd still needs to mature physically but he did put on 5kg of muscle this summer and is on his way. I'm pretty sure Lombardi and Boyd are "built" too.

I'm sure a long-distance marathon runner would score pretty high in fitness tests, too, but that doesn't mean you can't knock one over with a toothpick.

I'm sure Lombardi scored 2nd overall out of 30+ professional athletes by getting 10/10 with his endurance and 0/10 for strength.

Interesting little tidbit from Ohio:

Quote:
-- Wednesday's Blue Jackets-Flames broadcast drew a 3.19 rating on Fox Sports Ohio, making it the highest rated game since 2001. Strange that a 10 p.m. game on a Wednesday drew like that, but I called FSO PR and they confirmed it.

You bumped this thread for that? ^^^^

Where's the 'No Thanks' button when you need it?

One would think after every 10th thread asking for a 'No Thanks' button someone might think about implementing one.

I can imagine such a button would only lead to more pissing matches and start more fights.

The purpose of the Thanks button was to give people a mechanism to show their appreciation for a post in a friendly matter. To turn the site a little more positive on the whole.

Very interesting. I maintain Columbus is an excellent hockey market, and they just need a whiff of success for their fans to return in droves. A playoff berth will see the franchise spring back to life. Heck, how long has it been since they've been in the playoff race over halfway through the season?

Take a look at the attendance figures over the past year and a half.

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/t....aspx?team=148

They averaged only 13,384 in the first 10 games this year but in the past 11 games they have averaged over 15,575. Their current average of 14,533 is over 700 fans/game higher than at the midway point last year. And if the trend continues I could see them averaging over 16,000 by years end.

Here's hoping Columbus makes it, because they definitely have loyal fans who deserve some playoff excitement.
