Say what you want about the NHL.. the venue, ambiance and setup of these things are first class.

Billy Idol as the musical talent on the other hand.. haha

So the start time wasn't delayed? Talk yesterday was it might be delayed due to the brightness.

I've always thought it would be super cool to see one of these games live

The novelty at McMahon wore off after about 5 minutes.

This would be a much better venue and temperature to watch a 3 hour game in.

The novelty wore off because it was dark and minus 700 by that point. You know it's bad when the chemical heat packs you brought just decide to give up. Still, blanking the Habs and singing profane versions of the Ole chant more than made it worth the effort.

A seeing eye dog went right underneath the blocker of Holtby.

Totally. It never looks like amateur hour (which they are guilty of sometimes) but they always pull this off.

That being said, the bloom is definitely off the rose. It doesn't feel like a special event so much anymore. I'd be watching this game anyway, so I'm not the one they are trying to appeal to, but it seems a little overdone.

This matchup seems a little forced (not exactly a heated rivalry) but it is a good game so far.

if they made this thing every other year, or every 4 years, it would be a bit more exciting in my opinion.

I don't think that the Sun was a huge factor in the 1st...the ice seems a little slow, some pucks that looked like sure icings indoors, slowed down and the linesman waved off icing a couple of times...

Seabrook got eaten alive by a bouncing pass to lead to the 1st goal...a great forehand/backhand breakaway move by Fehr...Ovi's goal was a good bounce on a bad rebound, he had good position in the slot...Sharp got a good Shaw screen, I don't think Holtby ever picked up the incoming puck.

For the two or three people that might care about the Macs tournament (Shaw 302), Calgary and Saskatoon traded goals in the first period of the girls final, 1-1 after one. Peter Loubardias doing play by play. Boys final is at 4.

Nice! Didn't know it was televised. Watching that instead.
