I LOVE this game - its addicting. I do enjoy the simple board game the best though instead of all the new and improved versions.

Will there be tantrums, and slamming of doors? Shady dice rolling? Table Talk?

The game is awesome. My family played it a lot on our houseboat vacation last summer and I always thought it was lame...until I played it. Now I can't get enough. It's almost a weekly thing now in our house.

I love the Cities and Knights expansion as well as the Sea-Farers.

Once you've mastered the basic game, or are at least looking for some new challenges, definitely try the Cities and Knights expansion. It adds more dimensions to the game and more paths to victory.

Yeah, I just completed my first ever cities and knights game online, it was an endurance test, that's for sure. Didn't do too bad, and thankfully had someone explaining everything as the game went on. Couple more games and I should have it down.

There's an online version called Sea3D with ladders and everything.

You can set up any game up through the seafarers expansion.

I've played the board game and the internet version quite a bit (though not in some time now)

As long as we have Chid staring at the board and asking,

"When do we drink?"

It's a pretty good game. Far too involved with luck for my liking, but it's alright. And troutman's right, the game is all about number distribution. And when you find that out, and employ the proper strategy often enough, I find the game gets pretty boring. Especially when you play with couples who are apparently on the same team, not that I'm bitter. I've been playing for over 10 years now, so the game's gotten a little stale over time.

Cities and Knights is a better game which adds a few dimensions. I think it takes a bit off of the number distribution, but it's still pretty heavy with that.

A far better game is Peurto Rico, although I find that it doesn't have enough player interaction for me to consider it a great game. No luck, though, so that's why I'm a big fan.

Carcossonne is a great game. I've heard that Hunters and Gatherers is a good expansion, but I've never tried it. A couple other non-luck games I have are Dragon Delta and Through the Desert. I've enjoyed those games for years now.

Nothing tops Diplomacy, as far as I'm concerned. No dice, no cards, and a whole lot of lying. Nothing could be better. It's just hard to find 6 other hard core players to get together.

A good two player game that I like is Lost Cities. My wife and I played it for hours and hours back in the day. St. Petersburg is another fun two player game.

We have that problem in our group. A few couples work together - we called one group Club Med (an acronym of their names), and now they wear their Club Med T-shirts when they play.

We got this game over Christmas and our family loves it. We had friends over and went to our game store in Red Deer to buy the expansion kit only to find out the store has closed down. We will be in Calgary next week and wondering if you could tell me a game store that carries Settler of Catan expansion. I take it from this blog that Cities and Knights is the best version to start with.

If you are downtown, Sentry Box is closer than Revolution or GPP. They are on 10th Ave SW, a few blocks west of 14th St.

I play Settlers on AsoBrain. My username is "Nigel777".

Totally addicted, I play a couple games a day.
