Ill add to that: it is VERY hard to win in this league when basically your entire 2nd line goes without a single point in 9 straight games at the most crucial point in the season.
Frolik and Backlund have combined for over 300 minutes of hockey without ONE point between them, that is completely unacceptable from your 2nd line. Tkachuk is clearly the catalyst on that line.
Johnny has 8 points in the those 8 games. Monahan has 6.
Just an abysmal performance from core players on our 2nd line and a huge part of the reason this team is where it is.
And Baclund gets a big pay raise. I really like the future of this franchise.

More of the same today with the lineup changes, but really just outmatched.
My worry is that BT will not do enough with the team and coaching staff.
We've talked about the coaching staff and really everyone needs to go (if Gelinas gets a spot elsewhere in the org, that's fine).
The players, oh boy... they really need an overhaul with this lineup after going back and watching in February until Smith came back and played ~4 games in March, we are just not a good team.
Lots of needs to really improve next year including a top RW, bottom six scoring, a PP, more physical play from the D-men, players that are bought in and willing to compete or they are sitting in the pressbox or passing through waivers, consistent goaltending (starter and backup), am I missing something?
The most depressing thing for me is not missing the playoffs or no draft picks, it is the zero hope for the future.
I think the future looks great, if one thing happens. That one thing is Brad Treliving realizing that this garbage coaching staff needs to go and I mean right down to the goaltending coach.

5 losses in a row, 3-6-1 in the last 10 games - this is the 'stretch drive'.
36 goals against, 20 goals for. Lost by 3 or more goals 6 times in the last 10 games. It gets even worse if you want to just look at the last 5 games. 25 goals against, 7 goals for. Lost by 3 or more goals in every single game.
That's not how you finish-up a season. I don't care if you are demoralized, hurt, or whatever other excuse is going on in that locker room. This is currently the longest losing streak in the entire NHL - by two games. Way to tank to get that 4th round pick higher though!
Enough is enough - Gulutzan needs to be fired right now. This team needs a big slap across the head as a wake-up call. It isn't ever ok to lose like this, even if you are eliminated from the playoffs. Play for your self-respect dammit. This is just becoming stupid and embarrassing. I had no qualms about Gulutzan riding out the rest of these games as the coach and then quietly being let-go early in the off-season, but you can't have a team finishing the season up like this.
We are out-tanking the tankers at the end of the season. That's deplorable.
Edit: The 3 wins? They came against the last place team in the NHL, the 4th worst team in the NHL and the 8th worst team in the NHL.

There is absolutely hope for the future. This is a team that went from the "find a way flames" that stunned everyone a few seasons ago to the massive disappointment that was this season.
A good coach makes a team better than the sum of its parts. A poor coach can make a good team look bad. There has been way, way, wayyy too many blatantly obvious bad decisions by this coaching staff when it comes to player utilization and deployment. The fact that this team is so markedly worse when the coach has the final say in matchups and deployment on home ice should speak volumes.
