Poor old Vasek just can't get his game together to a level where he can compete with anyone in the top 50. Must be tough to have been a guy who peaked so early in his career to now have to spend every season working to try and find that success again.

And just like that Vasek shuts me up with an improbable comeback from 2 breaks down. Back on serve at 5-5!

Geez, Vasek had a set point at 5-6 on Rublev's serve - Now the tie-breaker.

A break by Vasek to start the second set. Rublev is looking very frustrated.

Are you kidding me, it's 5-4 deuce and for the second time in this match, Rublev is taking a break to re-lace a shoe. Actually, it's a complete change of footwear this time.

Nice upset win! Cilic in the next round is a big ask but he's starting the year off well. Now for Shapo to beat the 24 seed and we'll have 3 canadians in the 32

Although he lost to Cilic at the Aussie Open in four sets, Vasek had Cilic in some trouble in that match and just couldn't win the big points. If he can play as well as he did today against Rublev, it should be a very competitive match.

Shapovalov crushed Dzumhur in the first set 6-1.
Edit: Now up a break in the second, serving up 2-1

Man that kid has talent and is fun to watch. Ripping cross court winners and jumping backhand smashes with nonchalance. He's really frustrating an older seeded player with no answers.

"Darn, Shapo gave the break right back. Wonder how he deals with that?"

Opponent finally gets a break to get the seond set back on serve and Denis immediately breaks his serve back without losing a single point. I think that crazy cross court backhand of his is almost unstoppable when he's controlling it like today.

So many broken serves. Still, a solid 6-1 7-5 win!

Kinda felt like he was playing himself in that second set. The only time the other guy was touching him was when his service game was off.
He really has all the tools to be a big star, I hope he avoids the Genie path and doesn't get too invested in all the off court stuff - imagine he's at a stage where lots of sponsors and event organizers are coming at him non stop.
