Reviews say they are amazing controllers but they are Bluetooth so you would need to know how to connect them in the Pi.
I have those as well and they're just as good as the iBuffalo ones (maybe better if you prefer a slightly larger/heavier controller), but connecting two over bluetooth is a bit cumbersome and they forget the connection regularly, meaning you need to re-pair quite often. It's annoying enough on a Windows box, I would just stick to wired controllers for the Pi

Raspberry pi 3 B+ was released last week.

Updates include:
Processor goes from 1.2ghz to 1.4ghz which includes some thermal management features
dual band wireless 802.11ac
bluetooth 4.2
new USB wired ethernet controller which allows for 300Mbps theoretical max (it can take 1Gbps but is bottlenecked by USB2.0)
more network and usb boot options
Power over Ethernet support if you buy the additional hat

Will see price drops on the older models if you need to pick one up for a project.

For those thinking of buying a 3B for Retropie, there's not much to gain from the new board. The current emulation limitations (N64) are mostly with the GPU, which is unchanged. Better off to get the standard Pi 3 at a reduced price

Haven't had a change to dig into it, by are there any changes to the power consumption from the 3? I had a hell of a time finding a proper 2.4-3V adapter anywhere local when building my DAC. Relatively easy to find these adapters online though (just had to wait for a week) and I highly recommend buy an Anker or Aukey 5 port USB charger if you're not 100% sure you'll focus on the Pi Projects. It'll give enough juice for the Pi (when testing) allows multiple USB plugins and if not used for the PiProject you're working on, is still great for home use or travel use.

I still need to find a project for my PiZero and Pi2. I'm leaning towards low power VPN for the PiZero and maybe portable Karaoke for the Pi2.

It is a lot more power hungry.

This is the power usage with HDMI, wireless keyboard usb dongle and ethernet connected

I have a Pi2.
Has anyone installed and is running a plex server on this?
I had always used Kodi and streamed, but am thinking about trying Plex to serve to the house from our media library.
I know nothing whatsoever about plex.

Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions you may have.

You can install Plex as a plug-in for Kodi. That’s what I did, though I don’t use my Pi much as a media player for some reason.

Read up on this a bit. This will enable me to connect to a plex server I have running, from within Kodi to use as a client/player, correct?
So I would still need to be running a server on something, like the pi? If the pi will run it well enough.

Not sure there is value in Plex vs Kodi anyway, or is there? I suppose this has been debated at length all over the internet lol. I currently am using Aeon Nox as skin for my media library, and connected to a hard drive attached to router as SMB. I use a VPN and do download some media that is transferred wirelessly to this hard drive and then available to all devices on the network. Aeon Nox is a very nice skin, and though media rich is still light enough that my firesticks seem to handle it alright.

I dunno, except for the purposes of a to-do project, if there is any real value in running the plex server.

Just to be clear what do you want to do with the raspberry pi and plex?

Are we talking about using the Pi as a plex client to watch movies or using a Pi to provide a plex media service to other clients?

Because the Pi will work really well as a Plex client to watch media.

It won't be a very effective Plex server if you need transcoding. If you don't know what Plex transcoding is; it is the on the fly translation of a media format the client does not support into a format it does support. Transcoding video files is very CPU intensive and the general consensus is the Pi sucks at video transcoding.

If the vast majority of the media files are already in a compatible format with your Plex clients, then you don't have to worry about it. If a large portion or most frequently used part of your library needs to be transcoded, then you will need better hardware than a Pi for a Plex server or you are going to get issues with playback.

Also a potential issue is number of clients. A Pi2 running Plex server can probably handle 1 or 2 clients at a time and then get pretty finicky if you add more than that.

^Perfect.
Want to try running it as a plex server.
I think I'll do it just as a project when I'm bored - see how it works.
Thanks!

You’d be better off using a barebones Linux box (I want to try using an Intel NUC) as a Plex server.

I run mine off of a 2008 MacBook Pro that needs a serious upgrade, but it’s still chugging along.

Any recommendations for a PS1/PS2 controller for a RetroPi setup?

PS3 controllers work fine on the Pi either wired or through Bluetooth

Looks like N64 and Dreamcast emulation will be a lot more viable in RetroPie now. Possibly even Gamecube too, though probably only for less demanding games
