Wolf is 50? Guy almost hasn’t lost a game as a rookie in the AHL? 16-1-2. 1.92 GAA
What does he expect? 0.00 goals against average?
Who is Pronman? Seems like he’s throwing darts at the wall.

I always find it hard to mix in goalies with skaters in lists
But for what it’s worth he’s the second highest rated goalie on the entire list and just a smidge below the top rated one. Also ahead of guys like Knight, Askarov and Cossa who were drafted way higher
It’s one of the more favourable rankings I’ve seen for Wolf

Are you going to go remove the best game of every 12 from all the other college player freshman in history to get a good analysis first or for just the one guy?

And just to add to this...8 pts in 11 is NOT mediocre production from an 18/19 year old freshman in the NCAA.
Thats actually really good. It would put him top 20 in the entire country.

Coronato was just drafted #13 in his class and this list is for all U23. 66th overall kind of feels in line with that, not really a big move up or down.

Maybe!!! ;-)
People were attacking Pronman's call of mediocre.
I was trying to see if I could get there myself without having to tilt my head too much.
It would also be fair to say his start has streaky; equal parts games with 2+ points and 0 points.

Pronman's article isn't for the cohort. It's for U23.

Yeah honestly I appreciate when guys like this have their own opinion, and don't just compile averages of every opinion and sell it as their own.
Craig Button is another one ... always has his own take.
As others have pointed out Coronato's production is good compared to historical freshman, and his ranking in this process is where it should be a for a recent mid first round pick.
Really he takes out the mediocre and there's nothing to see here.

For what its worth, the latest Athletic podcast is an interview with Pronman covering these rankings. For folks who want to understand how he approaches and the considerations, it's a really great listen. And he has some VERY positive things to say about Wolf, including how he may have been wrong about him historically.
It's about an hour, so obviously he doesn't cover the whole list or any single player with tremendous depth, but it helps bring context to the list.
I enjoyed it.

Other posters have been saying he doesn't have a quantitative rating system, but bases his own ratings (which are opinions) heavily on the opinions of professional scouts. From where I sit, that looks like opinion all the way down.

Scott Wheeler of the The Athletic is now doing a countdown of NHL team prospect rankings. It's another good read that provoke good discussion. Right now the released teams are:
32. Seattle
31. NYI
30. Tampa
29. Pitt
28. Vancouver
27. Boston
26. Washington
25. Chicago
Bets on where Calgary lands? I'm going to say 17.

I'll be surprised if we're over 20. We have a lot of guys that look like they could be NHLers, but not many that look like they'll be big difference makers.

Im going to say 19, middle ground. Lack of an elite skater talent, but Wolf being an elite goalie prospect buoys us.
Sidenote, buy an athletic subscription if you dont have one!

In his off-season pre-draft rankings he had the Flames at 20, with the top prospect being Zary, Juuso, Pelletier, Pettersen, and Wolf (in that order).
So part of my reason for 17 is based on the fact that I would say the pool is better now due to:
- The addition of Coronato
- The rise of Wolf
- Perhaps a rise in Pelletier based on AHL performance
- Could see perhaps less value to Zary and Juuso
But net you are left with I think a better pool now than back then. Of course other teams have improved too, which is tougher to project.
But I'm going to stick with 17 largely as I think Wolf's unreal AHL start will boost the ranking.
