Just so sad for the families involved.
Also tends to indicate just how violent this collision was. Some survivors are, literally, unrecognizable.

I can't even imagine. First the panic they must have felt waiting to hear anything, and then one family has some relief while another is heartbroken. Now to have all that ripped away finding out your son has actually passed away, brutal.

Devastating error. There is a photo of the two boys side-by-side on the front page of the Herald. They do look quite similar in appearance actually. Those poor families.

Not that that's much better.

No, there were early tweets from the mother who thought her son had survived. It sounds like the parents thought the kid’s teeth looked different but thought it might have been a result of the accident trauma. It wasnt until the kid woke up and asked where is his parents are that people realized there was a mixup.

A friend of mine was Parker Tobin’s billet previously. She just learned the news of the error and is in shock. I can’t imagine what the parents are experiencing.

Scary, sad, not even sure how to sum that up.
Confirms another poster's concerned post regarding the state of which these boys are in, scary to think how unrecognizable they are and are having to look at teeth as an identifier.

One of my old friends played with him in the AJHL and also just learned of the error. Just terrible.

Guy this was Stephen Wack's youtube page, as someone who loves photography and video I was amazed and impressed by the talent this kid had, it's been floating around social media the past few days but if you havent had the chance to check it out it's well worth it. Would love to see him get to 100,000 subscribers as YouTube gives you a play button.

Saw it in the Sun today, this young man, Logan Boulet, donated six of his organs. It was great tragedy that he died, but his final act was heroic. Logan Boulet, #27 played on Humboldt Broncos, he is from Lethbridge, Alberta, he signed his donor card upon turning 21.

Ron MacLean of Hockey Night in Canada talks about being in the hospital room with the misidentified boy
|
Quote:
Here’s a transcript of what Ron MacLean said:
I just have to tell you the story in the ICU yesterday. Don and I were visiting with what we thought was Parker Tobin’s family. So you know the story now—Parker Tobin, the goaltender from Stony Plain, Alberta, we thought had survived. In fact it was Xavier Labelle.
But as we looked at who we thought was Parker Tobin, the mom—so imagine, the mom and dad and the brother, they don’t know that they’re not looking at their own boy, that he’s so severely cut and hurt that they actually think it’s possibly their boy.
And I can remember her, this is Parker, the mom, saying, “He’s beginning to look more like our boy.”
Can you imagine? And it wasn’t, of course, their boy.
And the dad saying, “When Parker was a child he had chicken pox, and there was this one scar on his forehead, and thankfully this seven inch gash will make that immaterial.” And all these horrible, in retrospect…

Words can't express the heartfelt loss of this tragedy. Canada mourns these young players, their families, friends and the town of Humboldt. The entire hockey community is shook.

I thought it was 29. In one of the many news stories, I read that two of the players were able to get out on their own - the one whose parents lived nearby (he phoned them and told them about the crash) and one other player. I thought the one who found had relatively minor injuries (broken bones and stuff) but wasn't needing to stay in the hospital long term.
