Post Keep, Trade, Re-sign, Let walk, Buyout, Fire, Indifferent

Given the disappointment surrounding this years version of the Calgary Flames all one can do now is look forward to next season and the offseason moves that will undoubtably result from this years failures.

The name of the game is self explanatory. I'm wondering what everyone thinks, here is mine:

CENTRES
11 Mikael Backlund - keep
46 Marek Hrivik - let walk
77 Mark Jankowski - re-sign
23 Sean Monahan - keep; untouchable
25 Nick Shore - re-sign
18 Matt Stajan - let walk

LEFT WINGS
93 Sam Bennett - keep
79 Micheal Ferland - keep
13 Johnny Gaudreau - keep; untouchable
15 Tanner Glass - let walk
19 Matthew Tkachuk - keep; untouchable

RIGHT WINGS
36 Troy Brouwer - buyout
67 Michael Frolik - trade
21 Garnet Hathaway - indifferent
20 Curtis Lazar - indifferent
8 Chris Stewart - let walk
10 Kris Versteeg - let walk

DEFENSE
44 Matt Bartkowski - let walk
7 T.J. Brodie - trade
5 Mark Giordano - keep
27 Dougie Hamilton - keep; untouchable
24 Travis Hamonic - keep
61 Brett Kulak - keep
26 Michael Stone - trade

GOALIES
33 David Rittich - keep
41 Mike Smith - keep

Head Coach: Glen Gulutzan - fire
Ass. Coach: Dave Cameron - fire
Ass. Coach: Paul Jerrard - indifferent
Ass. Coach: Martin Gelinas - indifferent
Goal Coach: Jordan Sigalet - indifferent
GM: Brad Treliving - keep

For ease I left out the video coach and various management roles.

You get rid of all of the coaching staff and let the new HC hire his own staff. You dont want no GlueGun stink remaining in the organization.

Jordan Sigalet seems to not have had good results over the years. Even if he didnt have GlueGun stink, its time to go in a different direction here.

That RW depth is... terrifying. It needs to be completely revamped.

CENTRES
11 Mikael Backlund - keep
46 Marek Hrivik - let walk
77 Mark Jankowski - re-sign
23 Sean Monahan - keep; untouchable
25 Nick Shore - re-sign
18 Matt Stajan - let walk

LEFT WINGS
93 Sam Bennett - keep
79 Micheal Ferland - keep
13 Johnny Gaudreau - keep; untouchable
15 Tanner Glass - let walk
19 Matthew Tkachuk - keep; untouchable

RIGHT WINGS
36 Troy Brouwer - buyout
67 Michael Frolik - keep
21 Garnet Hathaway - indifferent / AHL
20 Curtis Lazar - indifferent / AHL
8 Chris Stewart - let walk
10 Kris Versteeg - let walk

DEFENSE
44 Matt Bartkowski - let walk
7 T.J. Brodie - trade
5 Mark Giordano - keep
27 Dougie Hamilton - keep; untouchable
24 Travis Hamonic - keep
61 Brett Kulak - keep
26 Michael Stone - trade

EVERYTHING depends on how Andersson, Valimaki, Fox and Kylington turn out. BT needs to gamble here and assume one of them is going to step up so he can trade Stone or Brodie + prospect for scoring help.

Ha-ha I just read this and thought the same thing. Must be the worst RW depth in the league.

Maybe instead of trading for a 4th defenseman Trevling should have got a RW.

I think I know why Gulutzan plays Brouwer on the PP. What other options does he have?

Need to find a coach/coaches who knows how to use Brodie and his breakout.

You try to get something for Bennett, he has zero finish which hurts the team.

Brouwer buy-out for sure.

I would suggest trying to deal one of if not both of Hamilton/Hamonic as they are too passive - contributing to the stink. And could actually help to do a in-flight rebuild.

Stajan, Lazar and Stewart all plugs. Bye.

GG and Cameron will go regardless.

Smith is old and should go but who do we replace him with? Néeds someone to split time with.

Treliving should probably go because he built a very emotionless club.

If Bennett still holds any shred of real value, move him for it.

Good list, i keep Brodie and move him down to the 3rd pairing to see what he can do under a different coach who activates the D more. I also trade Frolik. Does Frolik and Stone get you a first rounder?

Gaudreau-Monahan-Tkachuck
Bennet-Backlund- xxxx
Dube-Janko-Ferland
xxx-Lazar-Hathaway

Gio-Hamilton
Kulak-Hamonic
Brodie-Andersson

with the hope Valamaki replaces Kulak in that number 4 role and pushes the depth down.

Keep everyone except Brouwer, Stone, Hamonic, Stajan and Hathaway. Team doesn't need a shakeup it needs a coach. Only thing that needs changing is having a partner for Brodie. An actual partner, who meshes with him. It's not that hard when you stop trying to fill checkboxes like "right shot" and "defensive" and find someone who can just play at both ends.

This team can't or won't get it done. New coaching staff will help but the team just isn't good enough.

CENTRES
11 Mikael Backlund - keep
46 Marek Hrivik - let walk
77 Mark Jankowski - re-sign
23 Sean Monahan - keep; untouchable
25 Nick Shore - re-sign
18 Matt Stajan - let walk

LEFT WINGS
93 Sam Bennett - if there's a market, trade him.
79 Micheal Ferland - I'd be open to trading him just because I think his value is high
13 Johnny Gaudreau - keep; untouchable
15 Tanner Glass - let walk
19 Matthew Tkachuk - keep; untouchable

RIGHT WINGS
36 Troy Brouwer - buyout
67 Michael Frolik - trade
21 Garnet Hathaway - indifferent
20 Curtis Lazar - Keep: he's shown he's a good bottom 6 guy
8 Chris Stewart - let walk
10 Kris Versteeg - let walk

DEFENSE
44 Matt Bartkowski - let walk
7 T.J. Brodie - trade
5 Mark Giordano - keep
27 Dougie Hamilton - keep; untouchable
24 Travis Hamonic - keep
61 Brett Kulak - keep
26 Michael Stone - trade

GOALIES
33 David Rittich - keep
41 Mike Smith - keep

Head Coach: Glen Gulutzan - fire
Ass. Coach: Dave Cameron - fire
Ass. Coach: Paul Jerrard - fire
Ass. Coach: Martin Gelinas - fire
Goal Coach: Jordan Sigalet - fire
GM: Brad Treliving - depends on how he handles things. If changes aren't made very soon, I'd consider letting him go.

I would be open to trading just about anyone on the team, Bennett and Ferland I would like to keep but if a team is willing to give a piece that will help now, you have to consider trading them. As for D, I think you have to look at moving Brodie but only if its for a good return. You don't want to just make trades for the sake of getting rid of a player (except maybe Brouwer) so there would have to be real value coming back in any deal.

The entire coaching staff needs to go. You don't want to bring in a good coach and say they're stuck with the crap staff the team has. If/when a new coach is brought in, they should have the option of having whoever they want for assistants.

If BT doesn't see the need for changes and at least get rid of the coaching staff asap then I think you strongly consider firing him.

Burke needs to go.

If ownership doesn't approve any moves, the team has to go.

If you can pull a Griffin Reinhart, move Bennett to some stupid team who still think he has high value and potential. Otherwise might as well keep him and hope for the best.

Keep: Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, Giordano, Hamilton, hamonic, Bennett, Jankowski, Lazar, Frolik, Backlund (shoulda moved him in my opinion)

Move/let walk: Brodie, stone (gotta listen on offers), Stajan, Brouwer, Versteeg, Ferland (he doesn't know how to play as an effective crash and banger to augment the cold streaks),

Gaudreau - Monahan - tkatchuk/Bennett
Bennett/tkatchuk - a - b
c - Backlund - frolik
Lazar - Jankowski - d

Giordano - Hamilton
x - hamonic
y - stone

Smith
Rittich

a = need a true offensive 2nd line center thru trade or ufa (Ror, Stastny, etc)
b = if you can hit a homerun on a, perhaps this is less crucial and can be filled with Ferland
c = filled with a kid with 2way play (Dube, klimchuk, foo, mangiapane)
d = speed grit ufa or just sign Hathaway, or one of the options listed for c

x, y = 1 of Andersson, kylington, fox, and a cheap depth ufa that are always out there if you aren't comfortable with a rookie in the top4

I really think the gap between the flames being a playoff team VS bubble garbage is getting a true 2nd line and pushing backlund/Frolik down creating one of the best 2-way 3rd lines in the league.

Naturally, get the coaching staff out of here, and if the gm is tied to the coaches then get rid of him too.

Untouchable - Johnny hockey , tkachuk ,
Keep- Monohan , Hamilton , hamonic

The rest can be traded at the right price. I'm not saying trade all the rest, but need to keep as many options open as possible.

Brouwer can be bought out and no more Stajan.

Why do so many people want to trade Frolik? He's our only good RWer. He's on a good contract. He's a good player.

Complete misevaluation.

Agreed.

For a team starved for offence, he's better slotted on the 3rd line though.
