Don't follow the league super close, so I am not sure of the expectations placed on them.

Red Deer will be a decent team, in large part to their 20 year old goalie Patrik Bartosak. They have a couple of good forwards and defenseman but if Bartosak struggles, Red Deer is in trouble.

New CHL rankings out.
Prince Albert, Portland, Edmonton, Red Deer and Kelowna mentioned.

I get to see about 10 or so Rebels games a year and Bartosak never really impressed me. I think the Rebels are in trouble one way or the other, especially if Dumba doesnt come back (and he doesn't really impress me either)

Bartosak did win the CHL goalie of the year last season, he is right up there in terms of top goalies. But I do agree with you, too many holes on that team.

Hitmen look composed and dominating in a win over the Rebels.
Can anyone tell me about Spencer Galbraith. Looks like we got him as an over ager. He previously played with Lethbridge. There is nothing about his stats that help me understand why he'd be taking up a 20 year old spot. He is undersized. Does he have good leadership or some other quality?

He will be released/traded if the Hitmen get Brady Brassart back from the AHL.

Had a chance to scout Keegan Kanzig a bit tonight in Kelowna. Some notes:
-he's come a LONG way. wouldn't have noticed him much which is a good thing
-definitely not the liability on the ice he once was. he's not fast but his foot speed has improved
-makes up for lack of speed with great angles and positioning
-super long reach, broke up a few rushes with it
-definitely doesn't have much of an offensive mind but did get PP time, they tried using him in front of the net which is probably best as manning the point isn't a strength
-didn't see a huge amount of physicality from him although whats nice is other guys don't try to hit him on the forecheck...he is maturing as last 2 years he was just running around gooning it up
-very quietly effective...it probably helps that the Royals team as a whole is much stronger this year...but Kanzig is wearing an A this year and was a stabilizing presence back there
Small sample size obviously but if he keeps this up he may eventually make the NHL...its astonishing how much better he's gotten so quickly...he may be a bit of a late bloomer as guys his size often are but his development curve has spiked this offseason for sure.

Bartosak was good-not-great last night, but at the same time was the best player on his team. The Rebels barely showed up for that one. Only time they showed life was in going after Padakin for a great open-ice hit.

Brassart was released from his tryout. I expect he's probably coming back shortly.

With Brassart's return, the Hitmen have released Galbraith, he is off to the AJHL.

Kelowna Rockets made a statement this weekend that they might be the team to beat in the West, if not the entire league.
Back-to-back wins over the Portland Winterhawks, outscoring them 12-5.
The Winterhawks have amazing skill up front but they were no match for the Rockets team defense and 200-ft game.
This could be the year for Kelowna.

How about Merkley... small sample size but the best 16 year old forward I've seen for the Rockets maybe ever. Rich getting richer.
