Anyone from Telus care to comment how things are looking for rural customers?

Stuck out in the boonies here, my choices kind of stink and I'd love to have more options available at my disposal.

Not too familiar with Hanna, but you may be able to get TELUS sat TV.

I've got a bill question - I'm positive I was told the first 6 months were half price. I was still charged full price on my bill, and after I called customer service and rocked out to "Single Ladies" for awhile the CSR told me that there was never any such promotion!

TheyCallMeBruce - obviously you've got the half price deal. PsnaP - is there a code or something for this deal I can use to prove to a CSR that it did exist?

I just switched. Here is what I got:

1 month entirely free.
$15/month each for Optik TV, Optik High Speed (15 Mbs), Phone for 12 months
I added voice mail and unlimited NA long-distance for another $27.95

So I will pay $72.95 for 12 months and $108.95 thereafter.

Care to run down what television packages you're getting?

$15 just gets you the basic - I got all the channels for the 1st month to preview, so I will have to see what I want to add. I may just add sports, as I can torrent all the other stuff I watch, such as Mad Men and Dexter. Not worth it to add a bundle just for 1 channel/show.
Lana @ Telus wasn't sure on when HD Net would appear, but the deal was worth it...

Hello Calgarypuckarians,

New here and see a topic that relates to a problem I have!!

My set top box (STB?) is an HD box and I have an HD PVR downstairs. When I am watching HD TV downstairs, playback of recorded HD programs upstairs freezes...It seems to be fine if the TV downstairs is off.

Watching simultaneous live HD broadcasts both upstairs and downstairs works without issue, so it seems to me that it may be a problem with the PVR being unable to decode live HD while I watch it and stream the recorded episode upstairs at the same time. Has anyone else had this problem?

I actually just told them I got a letter from them regarding the $15 deal. I didn't even give them a code. However, I can confirm I did get that deal. I already got my first bill and it is based on this deal. If you still would like me to forward you the code, just let me know.

Also, my deal is for 1 yr, not 6 months.

Telus guys came by my place yesterday. Offering me the $15/$15/$15 thing (though I dont need phone). Apparently they came by because they recently upgraded the network where I live.

I have one HDTV and one CRT TV. The guy couldn't tell me what the heck I was supposed to do with my CRT. I'm not paying/renting an HD Box for a TV that only uses SD signals. Anyone know for sure what I can use for the CRT TV?

Also, I have HD Plus with Shaw right now. How much would it cost to get the equivalent HD Channels with Telus? Am I saving money over Shaw to get the same channels with Telus? I looked at the packages and I'm not sure anymore.

Optik only has two different STBs - PVR and non-PVR, and both are HD compatible. Both boxes fully support SD streams that can be displayed on a CRT - I know this for sure as I use a non-PVR box on a 27" CRT TV with no problems at all.

Thanks...funny how the guy I've been talking with has absolutely no clue though. I tried to explain what a CRT TV is (using words like "big boxy TV with the picture tube that weighs a ton") and he said he'd call me back after speaking with his manager. I guess kids these days don't remember what a TV was like before Widescreen LCD/LED TVs came out?

Looking at packages/channels and adding it all up, it might end up slightly cheaper than Shaw...so I might switch. We'll see. Not a fan of the "customer service experience" so far.

You probably have an analog coax TV - I suggest replacing it right away with an ethernet TV, the difference is night and day.

I have a 27" Panasonic Tau CRT Flat Panel with Component inputs. It's not a stone age TV. He didn't understand the concept of not being able to accept inputs higher than 480p (through the component cable). Shaw Digital is crystal clear on that TV.

By ethernet TV are you referring to TVs with a CAT5 port? My HDTV has one. I bought the HDTV last year and I'm not buying another TV for a long time.

There is no such thing as an ethernet Tv... I asked on another web forum.

Oops, I got owned there. Should have picked that one up.

I did a cost comparison between my current Shaw package and the Telus package.

Shaw deal until May: $75/month for Internet, Digital TV Channels and HD Plus. (Free PVR, Free Digital Terminal)
Shaw deal after May: $135/month (PVR Extra purchase/rental, Free Digital Terminal)

Telus deal for 1 year: $90/month for Optik High Speed, Optik TV and additional TV packages to match HD Plus. (Incl. PVR rental, HD Box Rental)
Telus deal after 1 year: $120/month (same as above)

With all the positive comments about Optik TV lately, it's a tempting offer.

EDIT: Hey Telus, where the heck is Outdoor Life Network? The girlfriend and I watch that channel a ton...
