I don't know what this guy's reputation is like as a reporter, but I find this very interesting:

Quote:
I don’t usually do interviews with pro players, but I had to request one from Abbotsford Heat netminder Leland Irving simply because I have nothing but respect for him as a person and a player, and believe he may just be the best goaltending prospect to not see work in the NHL just yet.

Heat appear to play a good road game in Chicago Wednesday night limiting the Wolves to 13 shots, all of which stopped by Leland Irving for his first shut out of the season.

Rheault, Cunning and Keith with goals; Seabrooks with two assists and Brodie notching his first professional point.

Patrick Holland got the first star playing against the Hitmen last night, with a goal and an assist.

Joni Ortio posted his first win of the season for TPS and it could be his first in Elite League but I can't recall if he had one or not last season. It wasn't pretty win, 6-5 OT, but TPS desperately needed a win after losing 13 in a row and firing head coach yesterday. The defending champions have now 5 points in 15 games and are 13 points from last playoff spot. Developing in losing team is never healthy and Ortio has enough challenge on his own trying to fit military service in pro athlete's life. Whatever the reasons are, Ortio's stats sure look ugly->http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=16050

Bright spot for this season is one game for KooKoo of FEL-2. That's the only game I have seen from him this season. I can't follow our prospects as closely this season than the previous one thanks for not being unemployed anymore so sorry about lack of updates. Anyway, Ortio looked quite good in that game and it was sure important to take a breath and get a fresh game under his belt without huge pressure he and everyone else of team TPS have to suffer these times. There were some huge flaws in Ortio's performance that didn't cost in that particular game but will become red flags in future when he makes translation in NA rinks... if he ever proves to be worth signing. I'm not going to make further judgement based on just one game. He is under quality goalie coaching and if the wizard Urpo Ylönen feels Ortio has holes to fill in his game, then those holes will be tried to fill. We'll see at WJC how he has progressed if Ortio is even starter which is not sure by any means. Let's hope TPS can save their sinking ship and start regain confidence they had last season, specifically Ortio seems type of guy who needs to have strong confidence to succeed.

Regarding Ortio, given how their team plays and how small the sample size, you can't judge him on stats. He's been at least as good as their number one from what I've heard.

A few days ago, the ex-coach Juhani Tamminen wrote in a column that TPS's team game makes them look like a flock of sparrows on the ice and that Ortio had been the only goalie that hadn't looked bad. The one game I looked at a few weeks ago, he made like 47 stops, and looking at the shot chart, something like 20 of those were from the prime scoring area right in front of the net.

Right now, he's the goalie that got their team the first win in ages.

I didn't realize he had played for KooKoo. Guy plays all over the place. KooKoo is a team that plans on going far in the playoffs and challenging for a place in the "elite" league, so it's not such a terrible place to be. Interesting that he looked good when he played behind a good team.

Both Reinhart and Holland scoring at a PPG pace this season as 18 year olds. Not bad for 3rd and 7th round draft picks. Howse still doing great leading the league in goals and 2nd in scoring pace.

Patrick Holland had a huge game tonight, with a goal and 4 assists, and the first star. He's tied with Howse for points now, albeit in 4 more games.

Good to see Holland with a big game.

Leach scored his first goal of the year.

The Heat won 4-1. Patterson had three assists.

Nice to see Nemisz with 3 goals in 7 games so far. Got to be good for his offensive confidence.
