Pearson has the tools.
Just keep trying with him cause the upside is there. They have nothing to lose by continuing to rehab him.

Just got a notification that the Jays, Red Sox and Yankees are the contenders for Verlander. I’d give him a chance if he’s coming in around the $16M on a two year deal. On a one year no more than $19M. Seems like a purposeful leak by his agent to get the three teams bidding upwards.

I would be shocked if Verlander didn't sign with the Yankees.

Verlander.

His new deal with Houston is for one year at $25 million, and includes a player option for 2023, a source told Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston.
Verlander, who rejected the Astros' qualifying offer earlier Wednesday, missed the entire 2021 season recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Wow. Staying with the Astros was not something I considered. Not a bad choice as they are going to be very competitive for several more years.

Apparently an option for a 2nd year too, makes sense.
At least he didn't sign with the Yankees.

The players wanted no part of Verlander throwing out a first pitch in the playoffs.
But winning cures everything and Houston paying him $60 million last two years not to pitch apparently earned some loyalty.

Oh well. His QO was $18.4 million which he turned down.

Looks like Berrios got some 3rd and 4th place votes too.

You just know that one 2nd place was a damn Yankee writer.
Happy for Ray. Truly well deserved after a spectacular season.
It's pretty impressive for the Blue Jays to have 5 Cy Young's under their belt. Clemens 2, Hentgen, Doc, and now Ray. Not to shabby for a franchise only 45 years old.

Meanwhile, the Reds’ only Cy Young belongs to Trevor ####ing Bauer.

Happy the writers did the right thing and chose Ray. With respect to him returning, I’d personally be shocked. Immediately after the season ended he didn’t sound too keen, and if I were to guess he wants to hit a home run with a contract for both term and dollars. Same with Semien. I don’t think either should return if they’re looking for long term deals. Probably not the most popular view here but I truly think they can’t lock in old guys for term. They have to take the Tampa route if they’re capable of it.

Yeah I can't see Ray coming back. No chance IMO
I'm ok with it. He's a 2 pitch pitcher with past control issues who's over 30 and wants 6 years and Cy Young money. Good for him, he earned it but I'm ok if the Jays miss out.
Plus there are a crap load of pitchers available this off season.

Ya I’ve mentioned that I would prefer Semien to return but I would be surprised to see him return to the Jays. Whoever signs Ray and Semien will be giving us high draft picks as well so it’s not a total loss.
