He's never won one.

Brian has, though.

Presumptuous thread title aside, the Darryl Effect is something worth considering in depth compared to his predecessors, because it was a common argument that the core that burned through 4 different coaches was uncoachable.

Can Darryl’s WAR value be calculated? It would be way higher than any single player in the league I’d have to assume.

People wanted to bury the team after two games (where they played great BTW) and now we’re handing out awards.

They are playing fantastic and it’s fun to watch.

Coaching matters.

I don’t care. I’ll say it. This thread will age well.

Don't we make fun of other teams (ie. Edmonton) for jumping the gun with threads like this so early in the season.

Delete this please. We are better than this and is nothing but a jinx thread.

I mean, if you’re voting today it’s Don Granato in a landslide.

When you believe in things that you don’t understand, then you suffer

Here is the thing.

The Flames have a lot of talent. The same core, for the most part, was second in the league just 3 seasons ago. Now a lot of them are in their prime

There were some pretty obvious things that have been pointed out over the last few years. Pace of play, speed of decision making, and d zone structure were a problem. Lots of chances from behind the net into the slot, or across the slot were allowed. Communication from the coaches to the players was an issue.

Coaching matters. The team was losing the last few years because of how they were playing.

Guy starts a thread because he is excited the team is playing night and day different from last year

It’s not embarrassing, because you can see what has changed, it makes sense that it should work, and it is working

Like I said, I will not be surprised in the least to see this thread age well

Getting the team on the same page, doing the right things and getting good results should be respected. Collapse shouldn’t be feared. They are led by a multi Cup winning coach. Believe in him. Not jinxes

Superstition ain’t the way.

Whatever makes people happy and this start is to be enjoyed.

But just like with players, there is some virtue in acting like you've been there before. Seasons aren't judged based on two games of results, and awards aren't handed out based on eight games.

If you want to predict Darryl wins coach of the year, have at it. I would make the same prediction. You want to suggest he has done something to earn it after eight games, well I'd disagree.

And as much I can see how well the team is playing, I'm still a big supporter of a change to the core group of players before the trade deadline.

It's pro sports dude. I'm not taking out a mortgage on the results.

Meh..

On one hand, this thread is very Oilerish - and I just don't like walking around all greased-up like that with nowhere to go.

On the other hand, it is kind of refreshing to see something pop-up on the opposite extreme to counter all those pointless repetitive negative threads over the last couple of seasons. I have grown very weary of negative thread after negative thread (even if I do agree with some of them).

Winning is just nice.

Jack Adams goes to the coach who exceeds expectations, or if that team doesn't exists that season, the President's Trophy winner.

We should be both

Jack Adams was a good coach in his own right, but he has long since passed away. Darryl Sutter is still alive and a very good coach for our team. Besides, you can't trade coaches, only players. What a silly trade rumour this is.

When the Flames made the coaching change this is what I was hoping for in terms of how they played. Consistent and tough to play against with a solid effort each game. After 30 games I wasn’t convinced this roster was going to be good enough but it all seems to fit very well right now.
