Raimi has a tendency towards camp, that only works in certain situations. I wrote a blurb in the 'need a new tv series' thread about a Raimi produced show called Legend of the Seeker, where the Raimying hurt the show instead of helped.
Because it's Dr. Strange, I can handle a darker Evil Dead style of Raimi, but if he goes light it could backfire. I would have wanted a Guillermo del Toro style director better.
Speaking of which, del Toro needs to pick a comic book property.
If you get the chance you should watch the first two Hellboy movies there great and he directed both of them. He also directed Blade 2 which is also very good. He also wrote the script for a JL Dark film tho that one hasn't been moved on yet. If I could pick anything for him to do going forward I would love to see him tackle Swamp Thing.
Raimi, if anything is a better fit in the Marvel movie company than he ever was with Sony. Spiderman 1 and 2 were great movies. And I think he's kind of perfect for this Dr.Stange sequel. Just look at Army of Darkness!
Not surprisingly San Diego Comic Con was officially cancelled today:
Quote:
For the first time in its 50-year history San Diego Comic Convention (SDCC), the organizers behind the annual pop culture celebration, announced today with deep regret, that there will be no Comic-Con in 2020. The event will instead return to the San Diego Convention Center from July 22-25, 2021.
I imagine we still see some sort of virtual panel/announcement on a smaller scale from most studios, independent of the event.

Just watched Red Son. That was fantastic. I'm a pretty big sucker for the DC animated movies though.
I'm definitely going to have to re-read the comic. The plot was substantially altered, and I can see why they did that for the purpose of a modern adaptation, but it was missing some of the character of the novel.
Justice League Dark: Apokolips War came out a couple days ago and is the final movie in the DC Animated Movie Universe. I actually didn't realize these 15 movies were all tied together into one comprehensive universe. Some are not great and some are good.
I watched Apokolips War. It's a lot of fun and it does tie them all together and concludes the story. Worth watching if you've seen most of the others already.
Edit: Something to keep in mind, a lot of these are not young kid friendly. If they can't handle the death (some gruesome) of their favourite heroes, Apokolips War might not be one to watch with them.
1.1 Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013)
1.2 Justice League: War (2014)
1.3 Son of Batman (2014)
1.4 Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (2015)
1.5 Batman vs. Robin (2015)
1.6 Batman: Bad Blood (2016)
1.7 Justice League vs. Teen Titans (2016)
1.8 Justice League Dark (2017)
1.9 Teen Titans: The Judas Contract (2017)
1.10 Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay (2018)
1.11 The Death of Superman (2018)
1.12 Reign of the Supermen (2019)
1.13 Batman: Hush (2019)
1.14 Wonder Woman: Bloodlines (2019)
1.15 Justice League Dark: Apokolips War (2020)

Very much so reminded me of an animated version of the Ultimate Universe's Ultimatum story line. Lots of gore and and death with the only real purpose to be "OH MY GOSH DID YOU SEE THAT?! LOOK AT THAT!? DID YOU SEE THAT?! ISN'T THIS SCARY AND SO MUCH!" Wasn't into it with Ultimatum and wasn't super into it here. With that said, at least with the Ultimatum story line we didn't get a "Just kidding!" at the end
The entire thing really hammered home something I believe to be 100% true about the DC animated stuff. No Kevin Conroy, no point.
I had no idea there was a shared universe building to something. I thought they were one offs like the rest.
What made Red Son so good for be was that 1.5-1.10 of the"dark" universe movies where do mediocre and flat. Red Son breathed a bit of personality into the movies.
Just watched this. Definitely not for children. It's quite over the top with the violence and deaths. I thought it was a bit silly, but actually quite entertaining. Fun pacing. Some cool imagery. There's still a couple of the movies I need to watch to get all the references.

Ah cool, now I know what next week marathon is going to be. And look, you even made them into a list for me [File > Print]
I kinda lost interest in the DCU animated movies around a decade ago when they just became...so many. I've still caught a ton of these, but only Death and Reign since JL Dark.
Rumor is that the Snyder Cut of JL will be announced tomorrow and will be on HBO Max.
Very interesting if true...we've heard a lot of bunk rumours in the past.
Apparently JL: Apocalypse War borrowed heavily from Snyder's proposed script for this 3rd movie. You could even do a loose trilogy by watching BvS, Snyder Cut, and then JL: Apocalypse War.
I really hope there are no prison rape scenes in the Snyder Cut.
