Default Flames lose another season opener

This team is never ready to go on game 1. Predictable stuff. 1-14 in the last 15 openers.
These current Flames seemingly cannot get up for the BOA the last 2 years. That is pretty unacceptable. There is no care.

Flames were no shows offensively. Smith was very good and should be mad at these guys in front of him.
Can we buy out Brouwer immediately?
Shame we sent Jankowski down. Seriously. Ice your best roster.
Thanks.

Hey, Mike Smith was great. I'll take that.

Glass, Hamonic, Smith. All newbies to this team seem the most prepared to start the season. Don't think that's a good thing

Next game: Brouwer out, Jagr in. Janko in, Stajan out. Hathaway stays in, F. Hamilton down

Games like tonight make it really hard to be a fan of hockey.

The Flames came out with zero energy and zero care, and like only the Flames can do, they maintained that pathetic play for a full 60 minutes.

And then there's McDavid. This is what seriously makes me question my fandom in the NHL. The Oilers' fourth 1st overall pick in six years, and they suddenly get a generational talent. A complete difference maker that makes it seem as if there's nothing the Flames can possibly do to compete. To a team with fans like the Oilers.

The Flames looked scared, dumb, and stupid. More depressingly, they looked apathetic.

The Flames were also completely out-coached. There is absolutely no justifiable excuse for putting Brouwer out on the ice with under 2 minutes remaining and an empty net. He had been one of the worst players for the entire game (which is saying something), so it's no surprise that he's the one to make that blunder.

I'm embarrassed that Jagr had to watch that.

Good: Mike Smith, Hamonic for the most part despite whatever the heck Brodie was doing out there, Hathaway, Glass. Tkachuk kinda?

Bad: Brodie, Gaudreau, Monahan, etc.

Are we sure Jagr is signed? He can't decide to go back to Kladno?

I've tried to defend Brouwer as much as possible, but we need to get rid of him for the good of the team. That being said, Brodie is supposed to be one of our core players and looked drunk out there all night.

Why in blue hell is Brouwer out there with the net empty? Mindboggling.

That said, at least we lost with some dignity. Smith was a beast.

Tough to compete with an organization given as many handouts as the oilers. After so many top 5 picks and so much taxpayer welfare the gap between the organizations is sizeable on all fronts

It would be nice if they actually showed up for a season opener for once. Vegas would have even won that game.

McDavid 3 Flames 0.

Smith was world class. The rest of the team needs to gel & get some confidence. The defensive effort wasn't all bad.

Tbh, I hated how Gulutzan played the team. Felt like 3M should have been against the Draistle line, and that the D needed to use their body more. Secondly, Mctoomuchmoney was hit once... Why?? Seriously, he needs to be hit way more. Why doesn't anyone want to hit him?

Brouwer, and coach and no passion and unreasonable panic and declarations about the team and things.

Smith and Glass showed up, the rest were a bunch of cowards, coach and GM included.
