I love that Johnny's mom is thinking she is looking out for him, but she needs to look at he big picture. Johnny is a communications major, which means he doesn't have a lifetime of big pay checks staring him in he face. He has an opportunity to make more money in his first contract than he will in 10. The family needs to realize that the 10 year average for comm majors is $72k, if you find a good job. The brass ring only comes around so often. He should take a shot at it while it is there. Opportunity to make the NHL at his position will never be better than right now. Flames depth on LW gives him an immediate path to the show. Silly to pass that up.

Johnny wins another award, this time the Walter Brown Award, given to the best NCAA 1 American born hockey player in New England. Beat out players like Agostino, Arnold, and Hayes.

Morganti talks about the article, says Gaudreau signing after the frozen four tournament is almost a done deal.

Moms are weird. The NY times is a fairly desperate mouthpiece for getting a message to one's son. The message itself, about taking a job away from a 'grown man with 3 kids' reeks of desperation. I think, if anything, this is a sign that he's likely to move a couple thousand miles further away from her.
If he wins the Hobey Baker he will have accomplished pretty much everything in college hockey, amirite? Seems like a waste of time & energy to go back for a 4th year.

The bigger question is, do any Flames players actually have three kids?
Therefore, her concern is not valid as no such concern exists!
Can't think of one player on the Flames roster who has three kids.

Ya shes right, it is definitely unfair to make nearly a million dollars out of college because of the God given talent you possess.
What an inconsiderate as$hole.

Easy there champ. She's a mother, his mother, and allowed concerns of her child. Just because your mother didn't hug you as a kid, doesn't mean you need to rain on someone else's parade.

Can we please keep all of the Mrs. Gaudreau bashing out of this thread.
Take it to the playground with the other kiddies.
Lets talk about hockey here.

I think that's really critical for Gaudreau is avoiding injury. Which is why I'd probably like to see him play a full year in the AHL to acclimatize to the pro-game. Really don't want Gaudreau to get 'Brule-ed'.
|
I'd be more worried about him getting cheap shotted in the AHL with guys like Trevor Gillies or guys trying to make a name for themselves than in the NHL where there aren't too many guys running around trying to hurt people.

Good point.
I think the main takeaway from that piece is to having patience with Gaudreau. Small guys might take longer.

Yeah, the AHL gets no pass as far as rough play goes. That's why we have Gillies. Maybe put him or another cement head on his wing.

Not aimed towards Johnny's mom, but just chuckled cause it reminded me of this..(spoiler for foul language)
As for people trying to take liberties on the kid, they'll get a pummelling from big ern! Just gotta surround him with BEeF!

Gaudreau has great numbers but people shouldn't just dismiss Gerbe. His numbers are fairly close to Johnny, not quite as high but still outstanding. Gaudreau's freshman season is the only one that really separates them.
