Hopefully Sony doesn't go full Nintendo and make it hard to buy one. I wonder if the guts of it are similar to a raspberry pi running emulation.

One of many who is too boring; thinks that there should be rules regarding grammar in custom user titles, and also makes moderators wonder if there is a charachter limit here. I mean come on- you would think that would be a limitation in the software

At $140, the price will deter some purchases. I wasn't really a Playstation fan at that time, so the nostalgia factor isn't nearly as strong, but still tempted just to add to the collection.

lol, the reaction from PS fans is pretty negative. Guess the nostalgia for chunky early 3D graphics isn't as strong.

Of the games listed, only Wild Arms gets me excited. Will have to see a full games list to justify that price.

Agreed. I'd say it's probably worth buying if at least ten of the following are included:

Metal Gear Solid
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Xenogears
Suikoden 2
Tales of Eternia
Tales of Phantasia R
Resident Evil 2
Guilty Gear
Darkstalkers 3
Street Fighter Alpha 3
King of Fighters 98
Ape Escape
Policenauts
Valkyrie Profile
Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix
Final Fantasy VII (included based on the video)
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy Tactics
Chrono Cross
Wild Arms (included based on the video)
Wild Arms 2
Megaman Legends
Megaman Legends 2
Megaman X4
Megaman X5
Vagrant Story
Alundra
Twisted Metal 2
Breath of Fire 3

man that mid-90's console era with the PS1, Saturn, 3DO, N64, Jaguar...just a giant mess of polygons and blur. I think the focus for many of these games turned into number of bits, simultaneous color count and full motion video, over actual compelling gameplay. I still have some good memories from that generation, but not nearly as many as the preceding one.

It's funny how games from the NES/SNES/Genesis era really put more attention to detail due to their limitations and then as time went on, they went away from that.

Thinking of the NHL Hockey series and how NHL 94 for example had organ music from songs actually played in each arena (Brass Bonanza when the Whalers scored for example but also Flames classics which were played on the organ at the Saddledome at the time).

Plus things like "out of town scoreboard" and highlights from other games being played and fun things like that.

Problem is I can play pretty much everyone of those games on my PS3 or PS4 and on sale prices cheaper and easier. This will fail IMO.

Heck, I still have a PS2 that can play all the PS1 and PS2 games I ever bought! I rarely play them though. I probably won't play the PS1 classic very much.

I don't play the Nintendo Classic very much. It was novelty. PS Classic is less of a novelty and less intriguing.

Yeah I'm not sure how this will appeal to a range greater than the gamer hardcores. The 'retro' feel of the SNES Classic and the NES Classic was because they were exactly that.... retro. The graphics were from a different era, and original games and consoles are becoming increasingly hard to get your hands on.

On a related note, my SNES Classic has become quite the popular item if I bring it to social gatherings / family events. Great purchase!

Metal Gear Solid, man. Still to this day that and Final Fantasy VII are just ####ing masterpieces of game making.

PSX emulation has made some big strides in the last couple of years. There's nothing you can do about the polygon count, but with resolution upscaling, antialiasing, and perspective correction (fixes warping textures), you can make these games look way better than they originally did

Unfortunately there's no way this mini PSX will be able to do any of this

It's funny, I don't think there will be much mainstream hype for this at all.

But if Nintendo were to do an N64 Classic I think it would be huge like their other ones.

Edit: DQ8 is PS2 so well relevant to conversation not comparable.

Exactly, I emulated Dragon Quest 8 on my PC with all the bells and whistles turned on and it looks like a PS4 game, the classic will have none of that.

Chrono Cross and FF7... man I loved those games. I still have the PS CDs and original boxes stored away still for those among others.

If Chrono Cross, FFVII, Twisted Metal, and Metal Gear Solid are on it, I'd absolutely consider doing it.

One thing this has a leg up on Nintendo over is that there were never really any good Playstation emulators on the PC. Most of the people who would want to play PS1 Games likely no longer have a PS1 due to life changes.

Really wish they would just put these games on the PS Network and be done with it though.
