Thanks everyone for your great lists and your links to other lists. I haven't been as up to date on new music as I would like so cannot compete with these lists however will offer you this very niche list. Here are my top three 2018 albums from the Southern Hemisphere:

1. The Beths - Future Me Hates Me.
2. Courtney Barnett - Tell Me How You Really Feel.
3. Ocean Alley - Chiaroscuro.

Some 2018 releases I've been listening to during the break that do not get enough mentions in all these year-end summaries I've been reading:

The Green Pajamas - Phantom Lake: Northern Gothic 3

The Northern Gothic series of albums from Jeff Kelly are really top notch.

Haru Nemuri - Haru to Shura

May be my favourite j-pop album of the year.

School Damage - A to X

I defy anyone to sit and listen to that Cardi B album all the way through. Kacey Musgrave isn't much better.

Kacey Musgrave is wonderful, and Golden Hour is a fantastic album. Not really a Cardi B fan myself, but I don’t think these lists are “the best albums that everyone will agree on because music is universally agreed upon.”

Both Musgraves and Vile definitely make my top ten (of the albums on the RS list). Grande and Pistol Annies were both great too, but I can find 8 albums I enjoyed more this year for sure (Mitski for one, Courtney Barnett and Rolling Blackouts are probably up there).

I didn't think we'd see this when the Village Voice ceased publication.

This year is unprecedented in the history of the Pazz & Jop Critics Poll in the number of women that populate the Top 10, the fact that women make up the Top 5, and that they positively dominate the Top 35 — and, yet, they are hardly a uniform bloc.

The appearance of the Pazz and Jop poll this year was a pleasant surprise. I wonder how long they can keep the poll running.
