Is anyone with any provider outside the big guys? I’ve noticed a few popping up (specifically VMedia which I believe runs through Shaw infrastructure and another that runs through bell).

The prices are a lot better so I’m thinking: what’s the catch, and is it worth the cost savings.

Would love to hear anyone’s experiences (and apologies if there’s a thread on this already).

I hear nothing but terrible things about vmedia.

I would maybe use Primus if you have costco.

Teksavvy has been great for me. I'm currently back on shaw for a promo on internet 300 but will return to Teksavvy when this special price runs out.

I'm switching to TekSavvy. A coworker has been with them for 3 years and had been very happy with their service and price.

Yeah Teksavvy was the other one I was thinking of. I’ve heard really good things about both, and really bad things, but it’s always hard to tell with the bad if it’s just people being grumpy about customer service or something like that.

For those with Teksavvy, how have you found speeds and up time? Any annoying outtages?

I've used Teksavvy for a couple of years. It's pretty good. Their customer service is better than the big companies (it would be hard to be worse) and they're cheaper. Speed generally reflects what they advertise.

A handful of times the service has dropped out (from a couple of hours to a few days at the longest). In those cases, they have to rely on the provider they're effectively subletting capacity from (in my case, Shaw) to actually fix it, so you're still dependent on the whims of those horrible companies to some degree. I'm guessing the rate of downtime doesn't significantly exceed what it would be if I were just paying Shaw directly, though, so all in all I'm happy with them.

Is anybody on Lightspeed? They have an offer now for 300mbps for $49.95. Half of my shaw bill. If you have a referral code I will use it.

Anyone else have any experiences? When I move in a few weeks I don't want to go back to Shaw or Telus

I've been using Cancom for awhile now, they use Shaw infrastructure. No contract, bring your own router. So far they have upgraded me for free twice and then last month my bill went down by $6 ...... all without me ever asking them. I never got an upgrade or a bill reduction without talking to Shaw Customer Retention and having to threaten to cancel.

If you decide to go with them I'll give you a refer code, every person you refer permanently lowers your bill by $1/month.
