I find that certain player types often gravitate towards a particular stick type.
Power wingers, particularly those who are good at boardwork, like to get as long of a stick and as curved of a blade as they can get away with, all the better to protect the puck more and roof wristers from in tight. Playmakers like a shorter stick with a fairly flat blade, for stickhandling and strong passing on either side. Pure shooters have a flatter "lie" so they don't have to lean into the shot much - just rely on that elite deceptive NHL release, the true weapon of every NHL sniper.
