Neither are great skaters and both are elite garbageman. Smyth a little better hands around the net, Monahan a better shot. The most apt comparison I could think of.
Monahan isn't a garbage man, this is a garbage post.
If he was, I wish all our players were 30 goal garbage men.
Monahan has way better hands, an elite shot that he can shoot from anywhere and score (see the Carolina game) and is smarter than Smyth.
If you want to harp on something with Monahan it should be his average defensive game not his "garbage goals". Something tells me you've never picked up a hockey stick in your life or scored a goal at all let alone a garbage goal.

Your posts are always extremely..... passionate.... lol. That's my best comparison for Monahan I could think of and taking it as an insult is on yourself. He has become more of a slot triggerman this past season and a half, but he's always had excellent hands around the net and is elite at finding the puck for tap-ins during net front scuffles. If you have a better comparison, please school me

Calling his goals "tap-ins during front net scuffles" is where you come off as ignorant. Go back and watch Monahans goals this year and last, most are ten feet out and positioned beautifully. Guys a pure goal scorer, and some of you seem to have a problem giving him credit for that for some reason.

Ryan Smyth is a 400 goal scorer that played the-majority of his career in the dead puck era. He was a great player for a long time.
The main difficulty Gaudreau has had in terms of goal scoring is that defenders are doing a better job of keeping him out of the danger zones. Monahan has an easier time with getting into the danger zones and Johnny is there to feed him the puck.

Gaudreau is the least of the Flames worries. Yes he didn't have a great game against the Wild but will more than make up for it throughout the season.

And don't see the point in comparing him to anyone. He's his own player.
It was silly when Monahan was being compared to Toews and Kopitar but at least they are all centres. Comparing him to a LWer because their stats were similar is ridiculous.
Monahan is his own player. He is a top 20 centre who is average when it comes to skating, play making, and two way play but makes up for it with great hockey sense and the ability to score.

You frequently have to read something to determine whether or not it's worth reading. So it is worthwhile to try to keep the quality of discussion high. Furthermore, the more unexpected the claim, the less likely it is to be true, but also, the more interesting it would be if well-supported. This means it's hard to tell even from a thread title if the contents will be worth reading or not.
These guys have elite shots. Monahan isn't even a one-timer threat from the slot on the powerplay and that's the bare minimum requirement of having an elite shot.
He needs to develop that part of his game in order to be considered.
As for this thread, Gaudreau doesn't have anyone on his line capable of creating offence for him and that's simply why is numbers are down. He's too busy trying to create for others or gets opposing teams pressuring him and he has to give up the puck.
How are people still talking about why’His numbers are down’? Do you guys actually watch this team play games? His numbers are fantastic. Strange thread

If Mony doesn't have an elite shot now he is gonna score 100 goals if he ever gets one...Christ he scored over 100 goals in his first four NHL seasons, the list is really short.
JG is on pace for 112 points, guy is an elite playmaker
