icon57 New Arena - Plan B - Victoria Park

News this morning has the City of Calgary pushing hard for the Flames to build in Victoria Park. Looks like they are giving some incentives wrapped up in an area development plan. Check out the story: http://calgaryherald.com/news/local-...-victoria-park

Victoria Park is really the best area for a new arena.

Would love it if they could somehow incorporate a Football/Soccer Stadium somewhere there as well. Outdoor Stampede Stadium concerts would be great in that area. If they could sneak it in where the bus depot is.. just maybe.

Yeah Victoria Park is the best spot for it but still wish they could find the way for a new football stadium in the area as well.

McMahon renovations just aren't feasible or good enough IMO.

If sacrificing the Stampeders and a new facility for them means the Flames finally get a new facility, I'm all for it.

If all we are getting is a new hockey arena with no plans for a new football stadium, I am very much against this.

Just because the fieldhouse isn't part of the new arena, doesn't mean it can't still house the Stamps.

I'm glad there're still having a dialog about a new arena. The right new building is a good idea. The Flames will soon have the second oldest barn in the league. Constructing a new arena will help create jobs. A new "state of the art" building will help Calgary in terms of stampede tourism.

I'm all for a new arena. Still, its good that they are taking their time. I am just happy that there is still a conversation.

Isnt this what pretty much everyone was saying to begin with?

Maybe CalgaryNEXT was a huge charade to draw us in to this.

I really hope a field house stadium project for the stampeders works out. My hope is one In the McMahon area, that is such an amazing spot. And getting a field house for the university would be great.

You know it's probably not at all realistic since I'm not sure they would risk it but I do wonder if there was a little bit of strategy there from the Flames as well.

Put out a bit of a plan that generates attention and public notice, but realistically isn't feasible due to a lot of different reasons.

Then when the city declines that it puts some pressure on them to come up with a plan and offer that fits their needs more but with some added incentives to the Flames for giving up on their "Plan A". Also transitions the city from "We have no interest in a new rink" to "Look how much better our idea for a rink is".

Now the Flames get a solution that is potentially just as good from their end, but with a better kick out from the city, and the support from the city is stronger because it was their "idea".
