I'm watching this Challenger match between Canadian Alexis Galarneau and Ramkumar Ramanathan and I'm wondering when the umpire is going to call Ramanathan for hindrance with the noise he is making at the end of his court.

Rats, Ramanathan wins in three tough sets as Galarneau was cramping a little at the end.

Pretty cool to see a tennis player light the Olympic torch.

Tough match next for Leylah as she faces one of the hottest players on the tour in Barbora Krejčíková who advanced with a retirement win over Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan.

Andy Murray withdraws from singles competition and will focus on doubles. Felix will now play Max Purcell.

Its a long story but all of Taiwan hates the Chan sisters. They are rich and arrogant and they bribed their way onto the Olympic team at the expense of everyone's favorite player Su Wei Hsieh. I believe you have to have played one Fed Cup match in the last 2 years to be eligible for the Olympics and Taiwan officials purposely left Hsieh off so the sister would qualify.
Also Hsieh quit on the eve of Rio 2016 for no reason, it was later discovered that Hsieh was bullying and yelled at by the Taiwan Federation.
So all of Taiwan celebrated their loss yesterday.

Is this a tennis tournament or a who can last longer under extreme heat contest?!? There's a reason they pushed the Olympics back three months to October in 1964 the last time Tokyo hosted and it was due to concerns about excessive heat. The smartest guys are the guys who decided not to play.

So yeah I'm gonna say Novak gets 40 majors. Plays five more years and wins five more calendar slams. We all might as well start scouting the 14-16 age range on the challenger tour, LostGen is pointless.

That's not an excuse. If Nishikori can handle the heat, anyone can. He's 31 and hardly the fittest guy on tour.

My point is we want to see athletes perform at their best and while I realize it's impossible to control the weather, you can do things to mitigate the impact the weather will have. With no fans in attendance, you can schedule matches later in the evening and not when the heat is oppressive.

I mean it's a great warmup for New York if nothing else, dealing with oppressive conditions. But the fact this is the worst Olympics in history doesn't change the fact these young guys should be able to beat opponents they are (allegedly) much better than. Conditions didn't make both Rublev and Felix lose in straights.

Felix did not play well yesterday, no denying that and Purcell has been on a bit of a heater of late (recently won a challenger event and has put up several nice wins of late). That said, Ash Barty made 55 unforced errors in her match against Sorribes Tormo yesterday, I have to think the heat had to have some kind of impact on Barty even if she refused to use it as an excuse.
/I did not see any of the Rublev match, was it vintage Nishikori?

Conditions are the same for both players so I don't ever like using them as an excuse, only golf really gets the conditions excuse because it can be radically different morning v. afternoon. It was a standard LostGen loss for Rublev, Nishikori just better on the big points. Youngsters time and again just struggle when the stakes get raised.
