Tuned into the Big Show podcast last night to see what the fuss was about and yeah, that was an odd stand to make.
However, having barely listened to the station in over a year I really feel for the long-time listeners having to put up with that audio quality. That should be the real issue, here.

I don’t mind the Scott Rintoul show. I never listened to it before it came on 960, so don’t know if there was as much Flames content before (probably not), but i find it not bad overall.
It’s way better than Jim Rome.

T.J.’s wife has MS, no one stopped critiquing his work, especially Will because of unfortunate circumstances.

But it does put some of the more hateful and personal comments in perspective.

Yah, I don't hold any ill will for Nault as a person. I totally sympathize with him there. All I can go by is what he presents on the radio, so I'm purely critiquing his on air performance only.

I wish Nault and his family well, but those circumstances shouldn't preclude anyone from criticizing his awful takes.

Do we need a thread where we constantly bash local talk show hosts?

Do you mean a new one separate from this thread or are you questioning why we need one at all?

If they provided a better product maybe it wouldn’t be a bash thread?

Questioning the need for it. People are like "I am just critiquing their performance" but it gets pretty personal and nothing new is added. Its like daily "guess what this person I don't like said today! Get your pitchforks". There is no value added to anything in here

Then don’t read it.
Their jobs are literally to critique professional athletes. But are off limits themselves?

As a radio personality, without any background knowledge of his personal life, Will Nault get's way to angry when people don't agree with what he has to say. The guy needs to be more professional IMHO.
Pat Steinberg deals with his outbursts professionally and diffuses a lot of the problem.

This is also a space for celebrating a good job by broadcasters, but it's been a goodly long while since that has happened.

I listened to the podcast of the 29th and I didn’t even think the argument was that bad. Raised their voices a little (both did, not just Nault), but they ended up somewhat agreeing at the end.
I thought the freak out in the summer by Nault at Boomer and Pinder while he was still on the morning show about the draft was more of an actual temper tantrum than this.

Rob Kerr was famous for his caveat that their discussions about a player, coach, etc... were not a referendum on the human being, but specifically a discussion about the professional. The same applies here. A person can be a fine human being and a lack lustre afternoon host on a radio station.
The challenge with Calgary sports radio is that it's mostly comprised of young guys who like sports and took a radio engineering program at a community college to become a radio producer. Those guys get hired cheap on 960, do their time and then slowly get air time.
So, if you're thinking Nault ain't great and shouldn't be on the show anymore, brace yourself because Logan Gordon will be the next man up since they're highly unlikely to shell out the money to have have a professional broadcaster or former player on the show in the capacity required.

Now, I will say in defence of the young on air personalities at 960, I’ve heard they get little to no real feedback or coaching.
I mean, we’ve all heard Kirsch host Hockey Central at Noon. He’s easily on of the worst on air and he’s the boss.

I always figured that Kirsch's limited on-air appearances were a reflection of an awareness that he is not very good at it. I would also assume in the light of this that he would leave instruction to others who are much better at it.
