Default PS2 Gone

Sony Stops making 'em

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-20875176

Quote:
Sony has ended Japanese production of its best-selling PlayStation 2 (PS2).
The hardware first went on sale in March 2000 in Japan and since then more than 150 million PS2 consoles have been sold.
The PS2 was so popular that it outsold its replacement for the first three years that the PlayStation 3 was available.

They can't be serious. I finally decided to take the plunge and buy one and now they stop making them? Sony's just lost a customer.

No joke, I still play my PS2 from time to time. It's the only way I can play GTA: Liberty City Stories, Vice City, Vice City Stories, etc.

I can't believe they hadn't stopped production a few years ago.

They still made PS2's? Serious question.

I'm not a gamer by any stretch so I assumed they hadn't produced any new ps2 machines In years.

Not that I've been looking, but I can't recall coming across one in a new box in a long time.

Zellers. Nobody goes to Zellers to buy anything electronics related. The Zellers in Abbotsford is becoming Target soon, so everything was on sale ranging from 20% off to 80% off. I went to the electronics section to see what they had. Loe and behold, a brand new PS2 for $60.

Probably in the top five of systems ever made. Up there with the NES, the SNES, and the Atari 2600.

More than 155 million sold, over 1.5 billion games (according to Wikipedia). That's impressive.
