You may have to be a specific type of investor for this to affect any of your holdings....but worth considering.
The 2 trillion stimulus package in the US specifies that any company that receives aid cannot pay out dividends until the loans are paid back.

I'm coming around to this way of thinking...

That's what they did in 2008-09. The banks were back making a lot of cash and dividends had to be approved before they could be issued. I think that the BAC dividend was something $0.01/quarter when I bought shares! Not exactly a payout to write home about at the time!

I bet against the market last Friday (HOD). I just don't see them making an agreement by end of week. Still trying to figure out when I should sell...

Market is forward looking. The market always hits bottom well before the economy. This could also just be a dead cat bounce...

I think once economic data comes out people will get a better sense of where we are. What I am most interested in is to see Q2 economic data as that is where we are really going to get a sense of how much impact this thing is going to have and how big of a mountain we are going to climb.
I am personally surprised to see how much CAD O&G has rallied over the past week and a half.

The rise today was totally detached from the price of oil as well, which is a little curious.

I think a lot of it was short covering. Almost like panic buying at the end of the day.

Yeah, there will be a bunch of ups and downs in the coming months, imo. Everyone's trying to short, thinking it's the lowest it can be, but I can see much worse when the death tolls truly start hitting the American public.
I believe most governments are trying (rightfully) to "let 'em down easy" with their citizens that this actually is far, far from over and that we may into half a year of social distancing and no public gatherings, if not more.

It's still over sold compared to its sector. It was down about 65% whereas the others are down about 30%. It was definitely drug higher by the s&p over all too. Maybe on an up day like this buyers look to the biggest laggards for a bit of alpha in a large cap.

Just stick to your plans. FOMO is a great way to lose money.

FOMO kicked in hard today when the markets were up 4%, and then work happened so didn't do anything.
Saw the close and the FOMO went away.

April 3 the oil services co's looked good. Today I'll sell the ones I bought. Actually just sold them. I have no idea what's going on or why, but it might be the old saying, buy the rumor sell the news playing out.

I think no matter what happens that was the right move for me at least. I just do what others are thinking. That takes the guess work out of it. I don't want to be at the mercy of Putin's whim.

I was going to create a thread, but thought I'd just keep it here, but what does everyone think of the financial ramifications beyond just stocks for Canada? For me, I think Canada has a huge amount of money to make up in quick order so I think there will be a few changes over the next few years.
1) Increased immigration to bring in more contributors to the tax pool
2) Housing supply opening up, so I think housing prices will be stable
I'm in the process of acquiring my first mortgage in Toronto, and really weighing my options hard for term and fixed/variable. I can't see the bond market drastically improving so fixed should go up (according to the economics I know), and I can't see banks passing on BOC savings to customers as they need to keep their margins high, so can't see that going down much either. I don't know though, so I'm wondering what others feel here?

I can't imagine buying into the Toronto/Vancouver housing markets right now
Not saying I know it's the wrong decision - but those prices are hard to explain
