Even with that release from the director, I worry about the Disneyfication of the film. The original trailers I saw in the theatres a couple of years ago looked like a straight up horror movie, that happened to be in the x-men universe. This trailer looked more like an x-men movie that happened to have elements of horror.
Boone's quote does indicate a new edit. He must have a tonne of pressure on him to not black list himself from the MCU.

Pretty wild ride. Two and a half years from end of shooting to release. Would have to assume if it's a hit they'll officially include it in the MCU. It seems to be a stand-alone story.
They must have removed any and all references to the previous X-men universe. Could explain the delay, as that would require re-shoots.
Beta Ray Bill would be a green screen character, which would still take a lot of set time for Bale. He would also get zero face time, when the appeal for him would be to chew scenery (which he didn't get to do on Batman, playing the straight man).
At least Rocket is just animated voice over work.
It's too bad they did such a strange job with Malakith. I could see a possible recurring character for the MCU. (I'm also putting my 2 cents in that the big bad over many movies might be Keanu Reeves as Mr. Sinister, once F4 and x-men are officially introduced).
My vote is the Absorbing Man. Or maybe go all out and introduce Mephisto to the MCU.

I want to like it...but something about it just seems off.
it's hard for me to wash the taste of Suicide Squad out of my mouth. That movie was just so much crap, that any association with that seems bad. I'd be a lot more prepared to give this a chance if it was the first in the series.
That being said, the budget for this movie is far less. It looks like they're going for a lot more character driven film, which could be good, as Margot Robbie can pull that off. Another plus is that it won't have a Leto Joker. I do like the cinematography, which reminds me of 90s comic book movies like Tank Girl, the Crow, Darkman, etc..
Interestingly enough, The New Mutants has been confirmed to be part of the MCU in a D23 newsletter, but then the article was edited and that portion was removed.
Perhaps a mistake? Or they didn't want to reveal that yet? Or they will simply play of it off as one of the many universes that will be introduced in the multiverse movies moving forward?

The problem with the addition of the New Mutants to the MCU is that they have a bunch of kids who have grown physically since the filming (not insurmountable) and none of them are under contract to Disney (something that they hate). If the main characters sign on for future films, they would make the film part of the MCU. They've already re-cut to fit the feel of the universe, leaving only Deadpool as the outlier in terms of tone.

That actually looks not bad. I was pretty skeptical when I heard the announcement. Also crazy that in the teaser they reveal:
Spoiler!
The vulture?
I guess I'm still not entirely sure how they are tying the Spiderverse to the MCU. This looks like a pretty big signal that Spiderman will be introduced into this spiderverse. This was vulture attempting to assemble his sinister six?
Are they introducing Morbius into the MCU or just using Spiderman in both the MCU and the Spiderverse?
This is actually a really interesting way to build a movie universe. Make a bunch of solo villain movies, and then bring in the big recognizable hero. Be interesting to see how it all plays out and ties together. That teaser looked much better than I thought it would.

This is what Kevin Feige said
"I am thrilled that Spidey's journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it," Feige said in the release. "Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold."
