Best location of any airport I've been to is San Diego. Only 15 minutes from the heart of downtown

You don't think the California Coastal Commission would let them build into the ocean on piers?!?!
Maybe if they went completely offshore KIX style.
You could fund it by selling the current airport, which is a huge amount of oceanfront land in the heart of San Diego, so it'd be worth $$$.
Yeah exactly. I like Billy Bishop, especially the approach, but living out west I'm probably never going to fly there again unless I have another stop out east first

It's also a bit of a downer when you hang out in the inner city neighbourhoods around there. The air traffic is pretty obtrusive.
The airport authority will be starting work on the rebuild of runway 17R/35L in April. They are hosting open houses for communities that will be affected, mainly in the sense that they'll get more aircraft noise again as 11/29 will be getting more use like in the good ol' days.

Oh that saved my ass a few years back. Flight was leaving in an hour and we were all still on the aircraft carrier downtown!
Missed a turn off and turned into a military base, which they weren't too pleased and still made our flight!
They don't have a sense of humour at all. Wouldn't even entertain the idea of giving a couple 18 year old Canadian kids a tour of Area 51. We did get a nice escort back to the highway by one of those jeeps with the big pew pew guns on the back though. Didn't see any aliens though.
