I wonder just how many articles today about TLOU and Emmy noms made “achievement unlocked” references. All of them?
4 of 6 Guest Actor, and 3 of 6 Guest Actress nominees.
Succession got all the others. 12 nominations total between just 2 shows.
I don't understand those nominations at all; aside from Barlett & Offerman of course.
They basically nominated every guest who came into a single episode; who were mostly forgettable.
To do the character justice she should probably at least look like she hits the weights every once in a while. I doubt they try to exactly mimic the video game character's physique which was a little over the top but to make her at least look somewhat menacing she should look like she's put some training time in.
From that guardian piece: "She’s one of the most controversial video game characters of the last five years, and now her role has been cast for season two of HBO’s The Last of Us adaptation."
Was she that controversial? I just thought people were pissy because......I can't actually remember why now, because she had muscles, because she existed at all?
well, Laura Bailey got death threats from some sad #######s, so there's that ... and the character was also intentionally set up to be hated for large parts of the game. Will be interesting to see how they structure all of this in the series.

There was nobody you could love in TLOU part 2. Everybody was a ball of hatred and revenge. In the overall TLOU story, you play as one character and then the devs made you play a 2nd person that killed that character. And then you play as a 3rd person trying to kill that 2nd character. [trying to avoid spoilers, it's complicated]. It's just hatred and vengeance all around. Ellie killed hundreds of people by bodycount alone. Artsy but beyond dark and depressing. Even pregnant characters you sympathized with got no sympathy from the violence. I despise the 2nd game. It's not how I want to spend my evenings and weekends.
Dever is a great actress, or at least she was a decade ago when she was still a teenager on Justified. Looking at her IMDB, I don't think I've seen anything she's been in since then.
Her latest is a movie called No One Will Save You, which is on Disney+. It looks pretty intense and might be a good indication of how she'll do in an action-oriented role.
It will be interesting if she has bulked up at all for the role. I don't know if HBO has the same type of bootcamp available that Marvel is famous for, but Abby had a physical presence that was important to her character in the game.

She was great in Booksmart, Unbelievable and Dopesick. Justified is also one of my all time favs so been a fan of hers for a while and looking forward to seeing her in this.
I enjoyed how faithful TLOU S1 was to TLOU1 while also making some tweaks to give it some nice TV flavor and make it work better. But TLOU S2 will have to do a lot of tweaking from TLOU2 to make it work. I didn't have as many issues with TLOU2 as others may have had, but the ordering of how the story unfolded in TLOU2 was more of an unnecessarily exhausting slog game play wise than necessary. Repeating that terrible story telling method in S2 would just feel like the series was full of unnecessary filler.
I really hope they fix the ordering of the story in TLOU S2 with the weird way they kept changing the perspective you entered the story at and the mismatch timing of how much was revealed from each perspective before viewing from a different perspective.
