I enjoyed the series but the ending didn't really seem to fit. I get the motivation of Joel saving Ellie but it doesn't fit as well as him just being executed or caged up while they operate. Seemed like they just wanted to keep a sequel open.
I would've preferred if they kept the universe going with a cure and showing them trying to administer it with Fedra trying to get a monopoly on it or something.

The game did a better job of showing the evolution of their relationship from messenger carrying cargo to loving father-daughter. So when the moment came, the question of "are you going to sacrifice your daughter whom you love for a small chance at saving humanity?" was very poignant in the game. Less so in the show, so the ending kind of flopped.
Almost no one would sacrifice their child for any reason, and Joel absolutely adopted her as a daughter.
(I am aware of the story of Abraham)

Finally finished this yesterday. Have to say, kind of disappointed overall. The ending felt like it just sorta....happened. I have a suspicion once it was green lit for Season 2 they moved some stuff to the 2nd season or something. Just didn't feel like much of a resolution. Also not enough zombie stuff overall. Don't really like the zombie thing much personally, but I really didn't feel the tension like there's a bunch of world ending creatures roaming around.
I did like Joel's rampage at the end. Really made me uneasy about him as a character when he's portrayed as pretty heroic through most of it. I think it was a good way to go.
Didn't play the games so no clue how the story compares plot-wise. Was expecting Joel to die for sure. That's what I think was probably moved to season 2.

Nope, the first season of the show ends exactly the same as the first game, which was always their plan.

Finished it a few weeks ago. It’s good but not nearly deserving of the 8.9 on IMDB, in my opinion. Maybe a 7.5.

In revealing as little as possible, the finale was nearly shot for shot a retelling of the game.

If you called it "super-shrooms" people would probably seek it out.

You mean like Covid parties? And ultra infectious fungi doesn't ring right either.
I heard a recent rumor from someone who was on set for filming, that some of the actors/actresses have worked in BC before and really want to return to Alberta for filming the second season. The individual was adamant that the actors and actresses had a lot of pull to influence the studio decisions, but I am skeptical they'd have enough pull to get the studio to agree to filming lots of the second season here.
But what it did confirm is that anyone on set openly knew that the actors/actresses really enjoyed their time here. That's awesome to hear and great for the film industry here.

Melanie Lynskey seems to have done a few shows in Alberta now, and apparently likes it here.

Ok so I finally watch The Last of Us.
It was good, but not in my top 5 mini-series list

I' am so torn between Murray Bartlett and Nick Offerman....can they both win? They were just so fantastic.

It was like when McConaughey and Harrelson were up for best male lead for True Detective. Choosing between Offerman and Bartlett is tough.

I mean....gun to my head I'd likely pick Offerman, but thats likely because I'm biased.
You've got the World's Manliest Man and he just knocked that role out of the park.
