I want to buy and set set up a router with VPN firmware installed but need to connect that third party router to my ISP's modem/router (as I have been told that you cannot install VPN firmware onto your ISP's modem). I was also told to do this I need to either put my ISPs modem into 'bridge' mode or 'IP passthrough' which is why I am here.
What is the difference is between IP passthrough and bridge mode? I have been told that Shaw is also reluctant to convert their Hitron modems to bridge mode.
tl;dr: Basically does anyone have any experience with adding a third party router with a VPN installed and connecting it to one of Shaws Hitron modems?
I'm not sure why they would be reluctant, but my home one is, as is the one in our office. You just call them, have them put it in bridge mode, then plug your router into it, and configure away.
